Just thought I'd post a great local yarn store in Bethany Beach.  I live in N. Wilmington, but always visit the store when I visit my Dad in Ocean View...  They are very friendly and helpful.

Sea Needles
780 Garfield Parkway
Rt. 26 Mall
Bethany Beach, DE 19930

The website isn't a commerce site though...

I love this place.  I go their often, usually after church on sundays.  I like Ginny she's is so helpful and friendly haven't really had the same experience with the lady who looks like Paula Deen (can't think of her name)  Although last sunday the lady with the multicolor specs was very helpful considering the store was packed!  I live in the area year round.

I knew there had to be someone else on craftster who lived in Delaware!  The state's not THAT small.

hehe - I live in N. Wilmington, too! Philly's a little out of the way for me, but I do enjoy Newark - especially now that the new Joann's Superstore just opened in the Christiana Town Center.

There's a yarn store I go to occasionally that's right over the border in Chadds Ford, PA. It's in Olde Ridge Village and it's called A Garden of Yarn. Of course, it doesn't help that it's right near the bead shop, and the bead shop is right around the corner from the quilt store. There's a lot of damage to be done in this little shopping center!

Overall, I tend to just horde the 40 - 50% off coupons from Michael's, AC Moore, and Joann's, though. Easier on the wallet, and I've got everyone in the office signed up on the mailing list so they can all bring me their coupons. Happiness!

I'm a beginning knitter and crocheter, but my favorite yarn in the whole world right now is Lion Homespun in Nouveau. AC Moore had it 50% off per skein. Hallelujah, Amen.  Smiley

Hey Metamurph, have you ever been to Hayes Fabric on 202 by Border's?  Their fabric (ALL OF IT) is 30% off through December I think.  They cost more, but are much nicer, cleaner and I like to try and support my local independent store.

The people at JoAnn's drive me nuts, but of course, I go back over and over for patterns.  I haven't been to the new one in Christiana yet.  I don't mind driving in Newark, but I just HATE that area.

I also hoard coupons.  I think its a hobby at this point.  Smiley

I don't care for it either. It doesn't help that I grew up in N. Wilmington and don't know my way around the Newark / Christiana area except to get to the University and AC Moore and back. :-)

And oh yes, I've been to Hayes. I love their fabric - they have things I've never seen, much less seen at Joann's. Hayes is pricier, but when I need some serious help, I go either there or to Loder's (farther south on 202). Loder's is winning right now because they have doll classes, a summer sewing camp for the kids, and a website that's not always "under construction". I'm nitpicky. :-)

I go to the Claymont Joann's store because it's closer, but the Newark one is nicer. The people are lamentably the same in both of them, for the most part. But in all fairness to Joann's, they did have their big notion sale over this past holiday weekend. I bought stuff I wouldn't have bought full price. I feel less guilty for purchasing fabric crayons, turning tubes, and a teflon iron cover at 50% off.  Gotta love it when they have their $1 pattern sales too - that's the biggest reason I go back there, too. Also, I walked out with a bunch of notions plus about 20 yards of fabric and only spent $40.

I'm supposed to visit the 24 hour Wally World in Elkton, Maryland sometime this weekend. I hear they have fabric, and I've never been there. Should be fun. :-)

BIG sale.  Smiley  I won't even let myself go in until I finish all my other sewing projects (about five right now).  So maybe in November, I can shop my hearts content.  Its hard though, I work one block away from Hayes.

Haven't heard anything about a new bead store yet, but a new knitting store opened up in pike creek (I think).  Too far for me to trek - it sounds like a real pain in the ass to get to from N. wilmington.

New bead store in Newark - Sparkles Bead Shop and Gallery. It's just off Kirkwood Highway down closer to the University end, in a little plaza behind Perkins Family Restaurant (I don't remember the name of the plaza).

And a little further north, there's the quilt shop (Quilter's Hive), and then further north on the left is A.C. Moore. Plus I know there are at least two sewing machine stores on Kirkwood Highway itself.

There's lots of fun things to do around this area. :-)

Hey everyone, Lewes girl here Smiley

There's a yarn store in Rehoboth on the Avenue called Knitty Gritty, just a little before the library. It's on your right if you're heading towards the beach. I've only been there once myself, just to pick up some DPNs, but from what I saw it was quite nice!

Hey guys! Another fellow Delawarean here! (Although I'm at college in Philly most of the time).

I cannot wait to go to this Sparkle Beads store...is there anyplace online or somewhere I can get info? I <3 beading and jewelry so much but I'm getting tired of the stuff at ACmoore (I work there and get all the coupons I want so there's not need for me to hoard).

Hey, I went to AC Moore looking for the Pure Allure bead stuff that's on sale and couldn't find it ANYWHERE. I left with two bead books instead. If I can't make it, I'll read about it.  Roll Eyes

About Sparkles Beads, as of this time, I can't find ANY info online. I can tell you that the hours are a little wonky - she's only open till 5 during the weekdays, and till 8 on Thursdays. I don't remember if she does weekends or not.

As for her prices...well, I'm a big fan of gemstones, and I like buying by the strand. Most of the strands I've bought from other places online have been 14 - 16 inches, and hers tend to run only about 8 - 12 inches...but she charges the same for them. I also bought a spool of plain old 20-gauge wire from AC Moore for 2.99 and she wanted 3.75 for the same thing. Sterling silver beads and findings run about 70 cents/gram. I have no idea if that's good or not.

I lean to the cheap, especially since I'm just learning, and I guess I wasn't too impressed with her prices. I'll go back, though. I can't stay away from a bead store.

On the fliipside, she does have a lot of pretty stones, and there are tons of project ideas and finished pieces just hanging around the store. She has oodles of findings and stringing supplies, and if you're looking for Swarovski crystal, she's loaded with it. She also has a great little project area set up where you can sit down and go through a bunch of bead books and magazines that she's provided. I hope she offers classes at some point, since she seems to be very knowledgable (I keep referring to the owner as "she" since I don't know her name!) and I can't always make it to the ezbeads.com store in Chadds Ford.

Ok, have to do some work now.

I used to live in Newark, I livein Dallas TX now but I go home 2 times a year. It's good to know where the LYS & other craft places are. I remember back in the day when Newark was filled with little bead shops and Dannemans was the best fabric store outside of Phily.( it was located across from Mc Donalds at the top of Main St. I think ther is a TOYOTA  dealer there now.)There used to be a bunch of groovy places on Phila Pike but alas and alack, time has pushed them to the dust bin of history. Go to the bead shop even if the prices are a lillte higher than the big box stores like AC Moore. If the shop survives, (and I used to work at the State Theater so I remember rents being astronomical even then) you'll be able to get great variety and perhaps even get classes that can  draw beaders & artists that the big box places would never get.

I so miss Newark. really.

When I was in high school, my mom used to take me Dannemans on Main St./kirkwood as a special treat because they had such a "huge" selection.  Ah, memories.

I'm from Baltimore, MD, but I have to travel to Northern DE quite a lot.  There's a new yarn store in Pikes Creek called Stitches with Style.  I finally got there the other day.  Its rather nice.  She's got a great selection, of everything, even sale yarn.  And her prices are fair.

Yay! I'm not the only crafty person in the state!  Grin (Even though I am a newbie here.)

I haven't been to the yarn stores, because I'm just now starting to get into knitting. But I may have to check it out next time I'm down at the beach. I haven't been to the bead store yet either, though I've driven by it several times. After I finish with my crazy weekend at the university, I'm hoping to check it out. I've more or less exhausted the jewelry possiblilities at Joanns/Michaels/AC Moore, so I hope it's good.

I kind of like the new Joanns, at least the expanded fashion fabric selection, though the cutting area drives me nuts. And I'm very excited that we're finally getting a Hancocks! It's supposed to open sometime this month, but I don't know when.

Went to Hancocks on Kirkwood highway the other day... lots of cheap fabric.  You still can't beat Hayes for quality and service, but if you need ALOT of fabric, its worth the trip.

I ended up at the Hancock's several weeks back, and it did have a lot of stuff. Big supply of yarn and buttons, some beading supplies too, even gemstones, and 99 cent patterns, which is always nice. Their grand opening sale is coming up on May 19th and I think it goes through the weekend. Should be some really good buys there.

I've added Hancock's to my Michael's/Joann's/A.C. Moore itinerary. It's always wonderful when a new store opens up.

But, yeah...Hayes. They've got 25% off all blue fabrics right now (at least they did when I went in to take a serger class a week ago). They've got the most beautiful, touchable fabrics. Even their remnants are cool.

From the 9th through the 14th, the Hayes sale color was green.  So I went twice.  Smiley

Metamurph, how was the serger class?  I don't know how to use my serger and I keep meaning to take the beginning class there.

It was a great class - I highly recommend it. Stephanie and Pam are the best teachers ever. I brought my mom with me for the class and they even gave her a machine to use so we didn't have to share.

They went through everything from threading the machine to tension controls to different kinds of stitches on a whole bunch of different fabrics. The class ended with a demonstration of how to stitch fishing line into a hem to give it a sturdy, decorative finish. I've never been unhappy with the service or classes there.

Hayes is in the same shopping center as Super G, Block Buster, Happy Harry's and Borders on Concord Pike/202.  It is closer to the Block Buster.

Hi. I live in the Prices Corner area. I am an avid crocheter who also does other crafts when I have time. Does anyone know of any groups that get together on Tuesday or Thursday nights? I am interested in getting together with other crafters but only have those 2 nights free. Thanks!!
