Doing something useful with cross stitch!

Hi all

I saw a couple of posts of what to do with cross stitch and how useless it can be I´ve stitched a design of my own on a jacket in cross stitch using waste canvas. This lets you stitch a normal cross stitch and then just wash it and you can pull the canvas threads out leaving the stitching behind. Anyway, behold!

nice job. what is the name of the canvas? I would love to use it sometime.

It  really is just called Waste Canvas. The canvas is held together with a strong starch glue which just dissolves away in water and I found it easiest to use tweezers to pull each thread out. I know Zweigart makes it and I bought some at Lincraft in Oz a while back. I don´t know of other suppliers but there are undoubtably some. I´d guess just ask at your local embroidery shop or google it for an online supplier.

I forgot about waste canvas!  I did many shirts and sweatshirts using waste canvas back in the day.

I love cross-stitching on clothing, I've used the waste canvas to cross-stitch a Bomb-omb (from Mario) on the back pocket of my jeans and also on the back of a shirt.

Hah! I new that´d come up... Actually I forgot to finish it all before I took the photo and it´s actually holding a harp (it´s an angel after all). I just have to stitch the strings on....
