Tunisian Crochet Purse

So. The obvious solution to having one ball of grey acrylics left over is to make a purse.

Anyway.

Here's the outside.

omg carha, that is totally awesome- the straps are waaay cool and i looove the way they go down to form the sides of the purse- that is a well good idea. This project is very unique and has more STYLE that actually screams STYLE . Im so in love with it!!! i haaavee to try Tunisian crochet. Did i mention it looks GREAT!!?!!?

xxPunkxxWorksxx, you totally should try. *grins* Definitely easier than 'normal' crochet, imho.

abbynormal, I pretty much made it up as I went along, yeah. Usually do. I'm one of these people who have no idea what they're making until they're finished with it. *grins*

Anyway.

I basically just made one huge gray rectangle (36 st wide, with a 3.5 mm hook, if you must now). Then I crocheted the handle, which was looking like one extremely skinny scarf, sewed the outsides together (if that makes sense) and sewed it on my rectangle.

Then I made the flower, and the skull thing, sewed them onto pins, and...

... voila, purse. Hope that was informative, and such.

I got a clearance booklet on tunisian and a hook, but I couldn't understand right away what to do and I haven't picked it up again since I looked it over that first time. 

I hear that it is quicker than regular crochet. Is that true?

Tunisian crochet is like a cross between regular crochet and knitting. Instead of working one stitch at a time, you work one row at a time. You pick up all the stitches along the row, and then "finish" them on the way back. It's a lot easier to understand if you see it being done. I wouldn't say it's quicker than regular crochet... I can do the same square footage at about the same speed with both.
