has anyone used myspace or Livejournal to advertise, and is it suggested?

i use myspace for mine too,
and i actually do get a lot of buisness from it.

Both are good.  Just make sure, especially on LJ, that if you join and post in craft related communities, you read the rules for the community in the user info and abide by them.  Some communities have rules about images or advertising or whatever.  If you're trying to appeal to the readers of that community, you definitely don't want to annoy them by posting ads where they're not appropriate.

I find LJ soooo much more personal and navigable than Myspace. I think MySpace is disgusting, actually. If you created a good banner, you could post in tons of communities at once.
