Last night I watched the show Two Broke Girls and one of the girls (the brunette) was wearing a sky blue crochet scarf!

Margaret Schroeder was knitting English style in a scene in Boardwalk Empire (season 2). This makes sense, as her character is from Ireland. Enoch Thompson walked in and said "You're knitting a scarf in THIS heat?" Her response was something along the lines of "Winter isn't that far away." I laughed. My boyfriend rolled his eyes.

Ah, to be a yarny...

A recent episode of "New Girl" shows the main character, played by Zooey Deschanel, and her friends crocheting and knitting.  Only crocheting is mentioned specifically in the script and most of the work being done is crochet, not knit.  The scenes play out over a few minutes (16:20-19:20) with plenty of wacky roommate escapades in between.

i thought it was kind of funny that it was "crochet time" but she was knitting.   Roll Eyes  oh well, everyone else was crocheting.  that made me happy.

Watching Nadia G's Bitchen Kitchen on Cooking channel, and in the opening, when she explains what will happen, "Hans teaches us to crochet!" *Hans ripped w/o a shirt with crochet in hand* "Like a MAN!!!"

I just couldn't stop giggling! Looked like he was using a tunisian hook.

It's not fiction, but here's a fashion spread called "Granny Takes a Trip" in Lady Gunn magazine with a model posing against granny square afghans.  FYI--there is implied nudity in the spread, but it is either airbrushed out or covered by strategically styled hair.

I really love the crocheted artwork, but boy, that are some really ugly models. Nothing but skin and bones... Brrr!

I love this thread! And I have a couple of additions ^_^

1. I caught a bit of New Girl last night and the girls were having a crochet night (although Jess was knitting). I don't watch that show regularly, so I don't know the episode name, sorry!

2. I don't know if this counts, but here is a quote from Supernatural, from the episode Magnificent Seven: "Some people crochet, others golf. Me? I like to see people's insides on their outsides." (Said by a demon, of course!)

Heres a book reference or two. In Wicked:the life and times of the wicked witch of the west. Shortly after the witches birth the witches mother (Melena) and her old nanny (called Nanny) are discussing the possability that Melenas husband (Frex) might not be Elphabas' (the witch) father and why she was born green .it reads as

"Frex wonders if his prediction that the devil was coming caused a window in you to open, letting an imp to pass through and spoil the baby" said Nanny she was crocheting an edge of lace, clumsily; she had never excelled at piecework, but she liked handling the polished ivory crochet hook. "I wonder if you opened another window"

and in the last book in the wicked years series (Out of Oz) Glinda crochets while on house arrest....i wish i could find the section where it describes what shes making but i cant right at the moment

In last night's episode of "Grimm" (Season 1, Episode 16, "The Thing with Feathers"), what appears to be crochet appears between 25:40-26:33.

It's not a great shot--only the handle (not the hook) is visible, the work is bunched up, and the project dips in and out of the frame during the time period cited above.  However, I'm pretty sure it's crochet, not knitting, because there is only one handle visible and the stitches are looser.

Was it the episode where Jess and two of her girlfriends (including Cece) were interrupted by Nick's girlfriend, Julia?  If so, the episode was a rerun of the episode I cited it earlier on this page in post 172.  There's a link in my original message directly to the episode and I included the time of the scene for anyone who wants to catch it.  It's Season 1, Episode 11, titled "Jess and Julia."
