Any pointers on where and how to weave in the ends? I'm bad at that and I'm always afraid the ends will come out if the afghan is used or when you pull it.

Make sure you leave the ends kinda long I use a large needle and weave them one a way couple inches skip a loop and weave it back the other way. I have heard you can use farbic glue to help keep them in place too.

Here are pics of my most recent star for a co worker. I used 8 skiens of sugar n cream yarn. I hope it's as big as she wanted it if not she will have to buy more yarn and it was starting to take most of 1 skien to do a round.

Woot! I am almost done! 10 more rows to go and then I have to weave in my ends ( the WORST part lol) Now lets hope I don't run out of my last color, I really don't feel like making a trip to the store lol

What am I doing wrong?
It does not look like a star at all. I'm on row 3 and its curling up looking like its trying to form into a hat and looks nothing like what the others at row 3 I've seen.
This is the first thing i've attempted in crochet. can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

It's how I was finally able to make mine.
I didn't get a pic of my first one before giving it away.
The small one was a dishcloth

I wonder if you are crocheting too tight. I have a hard time with crocheting too tight, and that often causes the curling.
The other option is there could be not enough increases per row. Have you been counting stitches? I hate doing that, but I always check when something isn't going right.
Good luck!

ok I kow what I'm confused about.
figured out what I was doing wrong up there... only had half the "shell" so it was half the stiches. lol. I'm such a nerd. first project though, so I don't feel so bad.
However, I'm having difficulty after this with row 3.
When starting row 3.
It looks to me like there are 5 dc on either side of the "hole"
so its like 5dc "hole" 5dc "skip 2 stiches" 5 dc "hole" 5 dc "skip 2 stiches" 5dc----ect.
Do I have the right Idea. Is the whole 2 dc then "shell" talking about the extra 3dc "hole" 3dc that I'm seeing?
Or am I totally confused.
I guess what I am asking is hell 3dc, 3ch, 3dc? so adding the 2 dc to either end would look like 5dc on either side of the hole?
and then after that would I just add nother 2dc to the 5dc on each side of the hole making it 7dc... 9dc.... 11dc? to increase?

When you do the shell (DC 3, ch 2, DC 3) it adds 2 extra stitches to the sides of each point of you star (this is how it gets bigger) You don't add them at the top where you do the shell, the shell goes in the big hole where you did the ch 2 on the previous row, and the 2 extra DC's go along the side. Let me know if that helps (or even makes sense), if not I can post some pictures later.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b314/iplaymyguitar/stargan.jpg
so basically you add 2dc on either side of the shell (a shell I assume is 3dc -3ch -3dc) and each of these points is seperated by 2 skipped stiches right?
And for every ring you add you just add 2 dc on each side... so 2dc, then 4dc, then 6dc on either side of the shell?
The pattern reads very confusing to me, especially since this the first one i've ever tried to read.
