Yaaay! I made a gingham pinafore dress to be Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz in! It's my first dress ever, and I made it without a pattern. Although there are a few mistakes, I'm happy with it because I've been thinking about it for weeks now, and it came out exactly as I wanted it too.

Ew, sorry about the colours in the photo, the blue of the gingham is actually lighter than that. As is my skin.

Anyway, comments/critiques welcome!

EDIT

And here are the shoes! I found them a couple of weeks ago, they were on sale  Grin. The picture doesn't show them very well, but basically they are just pointed glittery red flats with a bow on top. Hah, you can see the tan lines on my feet in the picture.

And here is the link to the mini-tute. Sorry if it's a bit unclear or vague, but feel free to ask me if something doesn't make sense!

holy crap, no pattern? I hate you make me one.

 Wink

you should make dresses for everyday wear like that, just not out of the dorothy fabric.

Aww, it's so cute! I agree with the "everyday wear" comment, you should definetely wear it out!

How did pinafore's get so popular all of a sudden?? Anyone know? I love them to pieces, but I'm so mad I can't wear them with my body type. *pouts*

How much fabric do you think I'd need to make this? Was it difficult?  ( 0.0)

wow! i have been searching for a tute that i understand and this is the one! thanks! your dress is so cute!

if i may ask, how much longer did you make your bust piece than your torso piece? we appear to have the same bustline and i have been racking my brain trying to figure how much extra fabric to put for the gathered part...

haha thanks! oh gosh this was so long ago, the answer is probably not very much longer - just measure around the widest part of your bust to get the bust piece length.
