How to Make a dorothy pinafore dress (updated: with link to *mini-tute*)!

Yaaay! I made a gingham pinafore dress to be Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz in! It's my first dress ever, and I made it without a pattern. Although there are a few mistakes, I'm happy with it because I've been thinking about it for weeks now, and it came out exactly as I wanted it too.







Ew, sorry about the colours in the photo, the blue of the gingham is actually lighter than that. As is my skin.

Anyway, comments/critiques welcome!

And here are the shoes! I found them a couple of weeks ago, they were on sale  . The picture doesn't show them very well, but basically they are just pointed glittery red flats with a bow on top. Hah, you can see the tan lines on my feet in the picture.

you should make dresses for everyday wear like that, just not out of the dorothy fabric.

How did pinafore's get so popular all of a sudden?? Anyone know? I love them to pieces, but I'm so mad I can't wear them with my body type. *pouts*
