Under Finley's food bowl/water bowl, we had a dog placemat from Ikea.  After a year or so, the edges are curling and it just looks plain nasty.  Enter 4 years of pictures...

Step one:  Go through archives of attractive digital pictures including doggie.  Order all 42 from snapfish.

Step two: Wait, wait, wait, until they arrive today.

Step three: Rush out to dollar store to buy a PVC placement with ABCs on it and to hardware store for contact paper.

Step four: Collage as many pictures of doggie as possible.  Fourteen.  Cut around borders.  Round edges.  Go almost crazy trying to make them all fit.  Gain husband approval of arrangement.  Tape them down.

Step five: Hold breath and apply contact paper.  Throw a minor celebration when top goes on without bubbles, creases or wrinkles.  Do same to back.

Step six: Photograph for craftster.  Cover with food bowls (which used to be the same color).  Cry because they're all but obscured.  Post to craftster.

This is Finley himself, enjoying the broccoli we have put down for him so he'd pose with his new slobber mat.

that's a really cute idea, our dog's mat has also gotten curly and gross, right now she just doesn't have one Smiley
