The directions say to copy it by hand onto one-inch grid paper.  You need 5 pieces of the eggplant and several of the leaf shape.  The instructions are not very detailed!  I don't think this includes seam allowances.

This is all there is for the bird.  I think they used glue for the examples in the book.  My childhood Christmas stocking made form this book was all glued too.
