Apparently that's how they did all the chainmaille for Monty Python and the Holy Grail, since they couldn't afford to rent/buy real maille for their costumes.

That's interesting to know. You know, we watched the original Robin Hood not too long ago and I was pleasantly surprised to see knitted chain mail.
