Any Suggestions for a Beginning Knitter?

Looking at all the amazing things you people show off really makes me want to learn to knit!, but I dont know how.  Ive looked at books at the library before but diagrams of hands are too difficult to understand.  I realize the best way is just to have someone show me. Unfortunately I dont know anyone who knits who could teach me so I was wondering if anyone could recommend maybe a really comprehensive book, website, computer program, etc. Thanx!

Hey,
I pretty much just started knitting today, my mom got me and my sister a knitting machine for Christmas and it came with knitting needles that I want to learn how to use and a booklet to teach you, and, after reading the book and trying alot, I can only cast on, any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm stuck at this same spot. I've been watching the knitting help videos on repeat, but still haven't gotten it! haha

I think the leftover tail from using the double cast on method is what is really confusing me...

That tail just hangs there. After you finish your article you weave the tail in (or use it to seam the piece if needed) and cut off the excess.

I have been so amazed by the knitting done by Craftster members, that I decided to toss my hat into the ring (so to speak!).  I bought a pair of knitting needles and a skein of yarn today.  I brought them back to work and showed the receptionist, who promptly took them from me and said she wanted to play and then she would teach me some basics!!  So, free lessons for me! LOL

Oh that's so exciting!! Be prepared to be so aggravated you want to stab someone with your needles, but after that...be prepared for full blown addiction.
