Yay! I didn't find the needle yet (bummer, because it's part of my Boye set and so not only am I short a pair of the tips, but one of the cables, too), but I DID find that I'd bought another pair of the right size needles awhile back so I could go ahead with this project, but then I'd forgotten them until yesterday. So now I can start working on my Spencer again! YAY!

So I'm back to this project, but I don't really remember where I was on it! Anyone who has gotten to the right side, where did the back part of your Spencer reach when you attached the right side? Any info on all of that would really help because I don't know if I've knit far enough or too far or what... I'm really lost and it sucks, because I am back in the mood to knit this sweater! I really, really want to finish soon!

It needs to be a few inches past the center of your back.

Ok, so this just isn't going well. I thought I could make this smaller to fit me by using smaller needles, and I've knit about half the Spencer with that assumption, but it's not really working out for me. The front is still coming out a little too long (it comes to the center of my chest, but with the ribbing, it will probably be a little too large), and the back is just totally off.  I have no idea where I was on the back - it looks like I was on row 23 of the chart, as you're supposed to be when you put it on a holder, but it only comes right about to the center of my back. I don't know what to do. I'm really thinking of reworking the numbers and starting all over again. But I suck at math so I'm not sure whether I can do it and have it turn out right. I need it to be about 34" to fit. The sleeve fits great (only a little too long, which can be easily remedied), so I could just leave that and rip back to the sleeve, if I could figure out the numbers for the body. Oh, that this had been written for 34" also! Anyone have any ideas on how to resize this?

Hm.  Have you tried seaming the side you've finished? Perhaps the back will pull the front a bit & it'll work out.

I just remembered: IK has some errata on their website that had the wrong ending row for the 34" size somewhere.  You might want ot check that out first, but as for resizing, I think it's okay to delete rows where it's too big and add where it's too small.

Also, if it's been so long, you might not have the number of rows added handy for your second sleeve....

I didn't seam it, but I have it pinned tightly as if it were seamed, and it's too large.

There is a 34" size? Or do you mean 36"? I only see 36" in the magazine.

My problem with just deleting and adding rows is that doing so might make the pattern less symmetrical, do you think? Or should it be ok anyway? It would be nice not to have to start all over again, but I want this perfect, or not at all!

The one thing I did right with this project was to write down the number of rows I did for the arm on my copy of the book... so I should be ok there.

Oh, right.  Sorry, I'm just not thinking (or looking at the actual page  Tongue).

If it's too big, I think it'd be best to rip back the front section some.  I think because the button band will visually break up the patten anyway, it's not such a big deal if you don't make it exactly symmetrical. Smiley

There were so many of us that wanted to make this and the pattern was unavailable - now IK is asking for nominations for patterns to be included in their "best of" - if we all get together and nominate it, surely it would be included?

Let's VOTE!

http://www.knitsimplemag.com/node/126#1 The Holiday 07 issue of Knit Simple magazine has a similar, full-sized cardigan in it.
