For Halloween my husband and I (well me and him agreeing to go along) are going to thow a pirate party *yay* and I want to go as a pirate queen. I can't decide if I want to be slutty or elegant though, and I have 2 dresses I can use. One is a prom dress that's black and white, and one is a homecoming dress that is black and sparkly. Any thoughts (for costume or party)?

Slutty pirate always works for me.  I wish I was skinny enough to be a slutty pirate.  I think I just like to say "slutty pirate".  i would hate to be ina  frumpy costume all night the less clothes the better during Halloween I am always hot.
If you have a flag pole you could fly a jolly roger
You could have candy dishes full of gold chocolate coins
You could have a treasue chest for the best pirate costume
If you go to www.orientaltrading .com and type in pirate and then narrow your search by clicking holiday there are a ton of party favors and decorations that would work perfectly, personally I like the skull and crossbones gummy candies.  There are also skull drinking cups.

Good luck to you!  Slutty pirate...  Cheesy

lol. true. and of course a pirate queen must be the sluttiest, vulgar one of them all.. I've been looking about, and I'm thinking it'll work as a gypsy c9stume base, just "pirated" up... i'm not sure though.

Whichever dress you choose, hike up the skirt on one side. Wear big gold hoop earrings and a scarf tied around your head. Can you borrow a parrot?

Ooh and bedazzle an eyepatch if you want to go really nuts! I have a rhinestone encrusted one. I was a pirate girl 2 years ago and I had the typical layered short skirt hitched up on one side, striped stocking and thigh high boots. Nothing wrong with showing a little skin! I also wore a frilly white bluose off one shoulder and tied up at the waist.
Here's my inspiration:

She's hot and I want her boots!

I have a yellow parakeet... I had a moloccan cockatoo but we had to give him away- he hated my daughter.

I found this link today- http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=46671.0
and it has inspired me... I do believe something similar will be what I use for the skirt to the costume.

I'd go for elegant with a touch of slutty..."elegant risque".  That would rock.  At the same time if you get it juuuuuuuusst right, it would even turn out to be sort of scary.  But in a hot sort of way.  Not sure if ya get me.

I never have an idle day,
New ideas come my way.
Don't know yet what I'll create,
But my imagination's great!

I'm not sure I get what you mean either brighteyes, but I think I have an idea.. that was the original thought behind the prom dress idea, but then I couldn't think of a way to do it quite right... and I don't want to trash the dress either.

Ah! I had a pirate party for my 20th birthday. Good times.

For party ideas, we did a couple things. First of all, everyone had to come as pirates, and we had some cheap eyepatches at the door for people who didn't. We were also thinking mandatory newspaper hats to embarass the people who don't like to dress up... but couldn't remember how to make them. Oops.

We have a big Jolly Roger in the living room, and other than that, the only pirate related activities I did was hand out chocolate bar booty out to the people with the "Best Costume" and "Best Pirattitude (AKA pirate attitude).
Oh. And I forced everyone to use some pirate lingo (just silly things. The alcohol was grog. And the bathroom was the poop deck.... because I amuse myself highly.). And everyone had to call me Captain. Yep.
