Another one inspired by Readymade magazine. In the latest issue they had instructions for making a standing bookcase out of 2 suitcases...but our apt doesn't have too much xtra floor space - but we do have high ceilings! Just pry off the lids of suitcases (don't worry - I've got plans for those), attach the suitcases to each other, then use the old "L" wall supports and attach to the wall. I especially enjoy the juxtapose of my boyfriend's playstation games with the antique cases...

Thanks for looking!

I saw this done on one of them home design shows, they did the suitcases and put funky fabric on the inside and painted the outside and showcased the homeowners purses in the "cases" on the wall. I never thought I'd see it done on here! That is sooo cool.

Me too! There are so many things you can do with them: I've made these shelves, a little table (posted on this board somewhere), they're good for shrines (either big or small) or dioramas....or just stacking all pretty in the corner (if you have the room!).

Thats awesome!

If I had space on my walls I would totally do that, and add an old trunk for a table (and staorage) nearby.

I *LOVE* these!  Shocked

Definitely eyeing up my apartment walls (and planning a trip to a thrift store).  Thanks for sharing!

What do you use to attach the suitcases together?

What do you use to attach the suitcases together?

Well, the bf (who loves any chance to use his power tools) used drilled some holes and used screws/bolts to attach them together. It's just a matter of finding the right length screw so it doesn't stick out too much. And luckily, these suitcases had intact satin pockets on the inside that did a nice job of camoflauging (sp?) the bolts.

we also screwed the top corners of the bottom suitcase to the wall for extra support...

OMG... I love these!  I hit the This Rocks button before my brain figured out what my fingers were doing.

I'm going to have to try my hand at these once I buy my new place next spring.  I often drool over old suitcases, and now I've finally got an excuse to buy two or three (or ten Smiley ... ) and put them to good use...

That is just...mightly cool!  I have a ton of old suitcases, this gives me a great idea of something to do with them - uh, other than just stack them in piles. :-)

*Stay tuned for my next suitcase-based work of art. here's a hint: it involves a ouija board...

awesome idea! i just drove past a free suitcase on the road and was afraid if i picked it up i would just have an extra container to hide stuff in and perpetuate my pack rat problem. this is a great idea!

i'm sure the suitcase would be gone if i went back to get it. i definitely should have grabbed it.
