GVSU Alumni...I wish there were craftsters there when I was there, maybe I wouldn't have gotten so many weird looks while crocheting in Kirkoff.

Apologies to whoever were upset by my absent.  I was in and out of the hospital from December 2007 until June 2008.

I see that this board is kind of old now, but I'm moving up to GVSU in the fall '07 from Lansing and have been hoping there would be some crafty people up there. Are you still a student?

I just moved from lansing to Grand Rapids to attend GVSU as well. Every 2nd saturday from 4-9pm there is something called avenue of the arts on Division ave. its ends at cherry (i think, i just moved here so i'm not good with street names) Its by the Division Ave Arts Collective and Skellitones. I just discovered it at the beginning of July while walking to The Black Rose Bar.
There is also a farmers Market every friday on Fulton st. almost to Fuller. you will see it, it goes from 8 to 4 and there are some crafters there too.
Any one know of any craft stores in the downtown area. I go to Hobby Lobby and Joann on 28th usually, but it would be great if i could find a good place to walk to!

There is a Field's on 44th and Kalamazoo, right across the street from the Post Office, I always shop there after I drop off swap packages.

Ohh thanks gals! I have never heard of fields, i will have to check it out. And I saw threadbender driving and wanted to go back, but couldn't find my way, haha.
I sew, knit and just make messes in general. If any one wants to craft or knows of any avenues to sell crafts let me know!

threadbender is right off of 44th st. right across from buffalo wild wings in the strip mall by magoos. its about a mile past the rivertown crossings mall. and stop in to noshville too if you like coffee, its open 24 hrs so its nice for studying late or study groups. also, theres a place called the whipple tree in hudsonville off of chicago drive just down the road from the family fare and secretary of states office. also if you like scrapbooking, stamping, crochet or knitting, cross-stitch, there's a place called country needleworks thats also off of chicago drive just down the road from target next to repcolite paint store and fields fabrics. and there's a pages in time just in front of the soccer zone right next to meijer. and there's a hobby lobby right across the street from meijer too.

depends on what it is...i used to shop at both threadbender and there for yarn and i've found that things are usually cheaper or equal at country needleworks. u just gotta compare prices just like at grocery stores.

I just got a job at the fields fabrics just up the street from campus and am honestly a little excited about starting. I'm glad to know there are a couple other crafters here! It's too bad there is no craft club or student org... I saw a guy knitting outside of Fresh just the other day.

I'm not a student, but I'd love to meet up and craft with people.   I'm 31 and I crochet, sew just a little, and do tie-dye.

Was an SNB group ever started in GR?

Hope school goes well for you this year!

BTW, I live right in GR.

don't worry about feeling old, i'm a gvsu drop out with a baby, now THAT makes me feel old! actually, what makes me feel REALLY old is when i go back to visit my old favorite professors that i became friends with and also my old advisor and all the 18 yr olds are looking at me like what the hell are you doing with a baby on campus!??!

I wish I had found this thread earlier! I'm a senior at GV and will be graduating in April. I'm not on campus enough to get strange looks while crafting in Kirkhof but my roomies definately think I'm slightly crazy!

I go to GVSU!  My fourth, but not final year, so I'll be around there for a while.  If anyone ever wants to meet, let me know!

I'm a GVSU alum and I still work/live near the college. I graduated 4 years ago but I wonder if they still do those arts and crafts sales in Kirkhoff every once in a while.

Me too. I'm a double major so I have to finish up some of my classes still.
I'm taking Creativity (LIB 310) and someone made a chain chomp hat, all I was thinking was, you sooo found that pattern on Craftster. It was awesome.

Anyone else having an incredibly hard time finding the time to craft lately? I'm going insane with homework and have to use final presentations as my opportunity to be crafty!

A little bit.  But I'm a procrastinator big time, so when there's something I need to have done for class, somehow I will find a craft to do instead.  Like today, I decorated a cabinet instead of working on the project that was assigned at the beginning of the semester and is due next week.  I have nothing done on it.... Oh well, at least I accomplished something today.  :-)

I floated between the two campuses for the last two years I was going to school. I lived between and had classes on both campuses plus work downtown. Let's say I was really familiar with the 50 route Smiley

I know it's far away, but when school starts up again I would love to meet some people.  Even if it's just saying "hi" outside of MAK (my home as a history major).  I am actually on campus for the exact time of my classes.  It's mostly because of working 40 hours a week and that I really would like to graduate and be done!
