the fuzziest skirt on the planet
«
on:
August 16, 2004 11:14:56 AM »
Last winter, I made this skirt for my winter formal dance at school (yes I have weird taste)... basically, it's just a knit rectangle sewed together to make a "skirt"... even though it's really more like a buttwarmer. I wear it over pants because it's pretty short, and because skirts over pants rock. Anyway, I bring you, my really weird skirt:
and a major closeup of the knit fabric: purple eyelash yarn knit with some other bluish cheap acryllic yarn (it was thick).
Yay for weird knitting projects! Well, everyone wanted to feel my butt.

Yay! I love it! It looks great!
I'm also partial to the skirt and pants combo!
I've wanted to knit a skirt for a while but have been hesitant because I was unsure about stretching and see through!
Duh! I don't know why the pants solution never occurred to me!
I guess it's time to get serious about a skirt!

Hey - I could use a buttwarmer in the winter lol. Truly though I love your skirt - I have never knitted with 2 yarns before - hey I am struggling with one most of the time- did you find it difficult?

spitbubbleluv: it actually wouldn't be hard for beginngers since it's really just a rectangle
pinkkittypiper: it's easy to knit with the two yarns, since one is fairly thick acryllic, and one is extremely thin purple eyelash yarn. Plus, as long as you just keep always knitting an acryllic loop and an eyelash loop together, it doesn't really matter if you mess it up since the fuzziness covers everything up anyway.
Originally, I was going to just use eyelash yarn, and that would have made it thinner, but I wanted to make the project go faster (I had like a week until my dance) so I thought adding a thicker yarn would help it move along a bit.
My teacher asked me if it was my bathroom rug.... hehe

that rocks - everything made with eyelash has a habit of turning out pretty crazy - id never have thought of making a skirt with it although i have seen pretty similar fabric ones, my local (hideously expensive but we don't even pay minimum wage) fabric store has stuff that looks like knited up eyelash - it sparkles, teehee

that skirt is totally rad... i would wear it to a rave if i were you, except that all the kids on E would be wanting to touch it all night! you would make a lot of new friends.
also, skirts + pants = AWESOME. i have been a promoter of this one for many years.

I know this was like 2 months ago, but I've been on a craftster hiatus kinda (it's no longer my start page on my browser)... BUT to answer these really old questions... no ribbing, I put in a string that i could tie that's kinda drawstring ish. Just to make sure it wouldn't fall down. Just thread it through the top a few inches from the top.
