so i saw a cassette tape made into a wallet here a while ago and i knew i had to do one for myself.  i used a clear tape, but it took some time for me to find one that would work, because as far as i can tell they have to have screws in them. otherwise deconstruction becomes extremely difficult.  so you need a smallish screwdriver, a tape with screws, some tape, a rubber band, and smallish wire cutters.

completed product:

tutorial! Grin  confusing Huh maybe but i hope it helps if you want to make one

first you take out the screws, then you open up the tape and take out all the guts.

then you need the wire cutters, to sort of bend off all the little plastic bits that would be in the way of storing money in your wallet.

like so.

after that, close up the tape and look at the top of it, and sort of eyeball out the center. then you're going to bend out a little rectangular hole on one of the two halves of tape

sorry for the rubberband being there, we haven't quite gotten to that yet (it's kind of a detailed tut, i know. sorry!)

then tape the two halves together on either side of the hole for a hinge (i used two pieces of clear tape, they're pretty invisible, but you can make a prettier hinge if you want)

open it up and stick your rubber band through that little rectangular hole you made so it's about halfway through

put your money into the inside half of the rubber band, close up the two halves, and pull the outside half of the rubber band over the rest of the tape. if that's confusing, don't think too much about it. pictures:
1.
2.

and there you have your finished wallet. (the stuff inside will need some rearranging probably, just to get it to fit right.

It look so funny! But nice and practical at the same time. Why did you make it clear? I would have covered with comic strips or something if it were mine (I dont want everyont to se how much I got  Grin) Very nice none the less.

thanks! i wanted it to still look like a tape, so when you first look at it from a little bit away you can't tell what it is now, and i guess i did clear for this one because that's the look i wanted, and because it's kind of like having an id pocket.  but if you wanted it to still look like a tape and to not show how much moolah you've got in there you could use a black tape or any other color of tape. i even found a star wars one that's gold plastic- it's so cool, but it doesn't have screws so i'm gonna have to figure out a way to take it apart

I was looking around he garage and found a box full of my father's or record. Among them I found some ACDC cassetes, KISS, KORN, and IRON MAIDEN. I think I will make a wallet but keep most of the cassete paper thing intact. Thanks for the idea Sugar!!

lol i'm so glad you guys like it! so you can get cassette tapes at good will for a buck each, and a lot of the time they're on sale for 50 cents cuz no one wants them.  and for connecting the rubber band on the inside- if you can figure out a way to do it so it works, that's actually a good idea, but on mine i didn't really connect the rubber band in any way, it just wraps around the stuff and stays that way- which doesn't work if there's nothing in there, but who wants an empty wallet anyway! lol yeah thanks!

Yay. I made mine.  I totally admire you for getting all those plastic guts out.  I couldn't get them all so my cards don't fit.  But it makes a groovy money holder.

Hey I just made mine. I loved the tape idea so I baught tapes. Well they all didn't have screws. So what I did to pop mine open easily is I got those nail scissors. I went to the bottom of the tape (The part with no openings). I took the scissors and stuck them in these little squares that were at the bottom. Then opened the scissors until the bottom popped open. then I slowly worked my way around the whole casssette until it was completely open. I hope that makes sence.

With money. I don't think anyone would actually notice, but I'm not from the US, I only used the dollar because it's the only cash I had.  Wink

I just made this! Excellent. Except, I didn't have a wirecutter, so I had to slowly cut out all the inside plastic bits using my old craft-knife. I managed not to stab myself, so yay!

Anyway, I cut my plastic band, and superglued one end to each side of the cassette, to keep the band there even when it's empty. It works really well.

Thanks for the tut!
