So I was walking out of work on Thursday and a woman I work with had a van full of baby stuff she was getting rid of... so she handed me this rocking horse and YAY FREE HORSE!!  I think everyone has had, or at least seen a rocking horse just like this... and that's really not very fun to me.  So he had to become something else.

Here's what I started with:

A little over a half a yard of fur later my son couldn't wait any longer.  He begged in the true toddler fashion "please please mama please" and I couldn't refuse, I mean look at him, he's too adorable ...he just wants 1 more minute! ... so here it is almost done:

And the finished dog!  It was originally intended to be a monster, but I let my kiddo pick out the fur and he did NOT like the bright ones, in fact he shoved them out of the cart.  He cuddled up with this boring white one, and once again... couldn't refuse.  Halfway through the project it looked like a dog, not a monster, and I wasn't sure how to fix it.   Tongue  I might change the eyes from buttons to felt just to have bigger more noticeable eyes.  What do you think?:

And the front:    I love the heart nose Smiley

how about some whiskers? and some spots?

So I should really wait a few days after I finish something before I post it... especially when I'm not sure if it's done  Tongue   emt95348- my husband agreed with you when he got home and saw it and said it needs spots!  So here's some new pics minus the very cute now sleeping kiddo  Smiley  I also changed the eyes, gave him some scary leather teeth, and gave him a collar with a dogtag  Tongue

And I'm out of fur... so I'm really done this time  Grin  Hope you like it!

p.s. I got all the velvets and furs (except the white fur) as free fabric samples from www.distinctivefabric.com (they give you 10 free samples when you sign up!!)... whoever I found out about that site from on craftster, thanks so much  Grin  I was so excited to get my samples yesterday and I used em all up already!

what a great idea!  you did a really good job too. your little guy is adorable. and what a lucky find on the rocking horse - sometimes we're just in the right place at the right time.

Cool idea. Much safer, too. It looks like a Shetland pony.
