I taught 11 and 12 yr old girl scouts how to bead this.  It took a few months for them to do, but when they finished they were so proud of themselves.  They showed them off during camp over the summer.

We used bead plastic canvas, then tacked to hat.

Here is a pattern I wrote with Bead designer 1.0.

We did these too with the troop using pony beads.

Wow... I may make that just for me! I love it!

It would make a nice cross stitch too...I think I'll do that and make a patch for my D&D backpack...or maybe for my purse...*runs off to start finding ways to make her Ideas work*!

Cross stitch is how I graduated to beading lol.  Uses just one stitch with bead instead of two with x stitch.  You can make the coolest barrettes using same technique.  A couple of the girl scouts wanted to do them next, so I gave them some graph paper and bead plastic canvas to help them get started.  Those beads sit real well with the canvas.

Beands and small kids don't mix...I've given up on trying to keep beads anymore.

I count my lucky stars, our troop did not have any problems making these.  Took along my trusty nylon panty hose and dust buster for any bead spills.  I am 38 and I still have bead spills.  I did help them tack to hats though.  Their eyes lit up after learning how easy it was.   Grin

That looks really good! I'm a UK Brownie leader, we have a different logo, but we often do swaps and International-themed crafts, so that would be really cool to try out

nice beading Wink

(congrats to me, figured out how to do this posting quote thingy lol) Thin Mints are my favorite, what a cool thought!!  I am searching all the time, for other fun, fast, things for them to try.  They call me the bead lady lol.  You can bead cross stitch patterns too, but no back stitching of course, so I try to choose x stitch pattern with no back stitching required.

YEAH!  When I was in high school, our troop would have so loved that.  We're were total craft freaks.  Other troops thought we were pansies casue we didn't camp as much as them.
