I haven't gotten any yet, but I'll be prepared. I also went to that scambaiting site. If I didn't spend my ENTIRE day here, I'd totally join in there. I read through an entire scam and was so excited when the "scam victim" scammed $400, bank info, address, phone number and e mail addresses off the scammer! Beautiful work!

As much as the spam PMs suck and are an abuse of Craftster - some of the exchanges that take place on www.419eater.com are very sad and indicative of the extreme poverty and desperation that some people live with.

I used to want to try baiting the scammers, but I have a feeling that a lot of the funny pictures that end up on the scambaiting sites are not of the actual scammers, but of people that are coerced into posing for the pictures by the scammers. At any rate, I just delete the messages when I see them now. I have not had any weird PMs here to date, but I get them in a couple of my inboxes all the time.

The 419 scam is a sad situation for the victims, and also for anyone in Nigeria who has hopes of running a legitimate business. No one wants to do business with them, because of the country's bad reputation. There is no easy fix for this, because 419 scamming is currently one of the best ways to make money there. Until that changes, the scammers will be with us. Education about advance fee fraud is our best protection from them.

Thanks, Leah!

I've gotten two of these in my PM box in the last couple months. (I love that one of them was from a 23yr old unable to access their funds because of age and looking for help from someone younger than them ;] )

What I noticed about the people who PMed me is that their post count was 0. What if you made it so you needed 1 post to PM someone? that would definitely screw the scammers over.. and anyone who had trouble PMing people would obviosly post in a public way to ask how to fix it, and thus fix it ;]
