I'm from Oregon, and it's Itsy Bitsy here!  But strangely, the song that got stuck in my head when I saw the pictures was NOT 'The Itsy Bitsy Spider' but 'My Crystal Spider' by Sweetwater.

Have you seen my crystal spider
He has eyes of mercury
He has left his web of paisley
Be aware
If you care
Would you please
Send him back to me...

I'm an Al-ette!

ooh, those are cute! I've made much the same thing a couple years ago (different beads, same basic idea - I used both bugle and seed beads for the legs, that's the only 'major' difference.) If this wasn't a craft challenge I'd post a couple pics of my versions, too. Grin
These also used to be a family tradition for my husband's family - they'd make loads of them (in white/clear beads) for christmas, sell them as "christmas spiders" with a little photocopy of the german legend and give the proceeds to a cystic fibrosis charity, as his sister had CF. (you can google up several different versions of the "christmas spider" story if you care to - but it boils down to the the heavy webbing curious spiders left on a christmas tree being transformed into tinsel). I haven't looked at mine in ages, now I'm itching to do more!
(oh, and it's always been "itsy bitsy" to me, I'm from North Bay Ontario, originally - mom's from Hearst. Yay for tracking regional variants of kid's rhymes/stories!)

I am not obsessive compulsive, I am not obsessive compulsive, I am not obsessive compulsive...

Bringing sexy back for a refund. It really just wasn't "me".
