Hey everyone, i opened a Sci-Fi knitalong blog, anyone want to join me?  Im doing Jayne Cobbs hat, or a version of it, but I have visions of sci fi themed bags and fair isle..  It's an open ended kal group blog thingamajig, do what you want as long as its sci-fi, thought it might be good to share ideas.  I also opened a webring attached to the blog for knitting sci fi fans..

Anyway, come and join in and together we can rule the galaxy as knitter and son..  or something.  Wink

Does it have to be something actually depicted in a sci-fi book/show/movie

or can we just be like 'OOO that looks futuristic" :p

either way, I'll join, but I guess it depends on sooner or later XD

Right now I'm working on this >http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=52700.0

It's not sci fi >_> but it could look futuristic Cheesy

That top is lush, I hadnt seen it yet.

The group is flexible - I think futuristic counts!  I set it up really coz i like sci fi and i like knitting and i think it might be quite fun to combine the two, and thought maybe some others might be up for it. It would be nice to have some people to bounce ideas off, think of the best techniques or alterations to use for specific projects, design some things between us.  I'd be happy for the 'sci-fi' to be a bit flexible too - extending into horror and fantasy, and definitely superhero comics Grin  If anyone fancied doing, say, Freddy Kreugers jumper or a knitted gelfling puppet, Id think it counted.

If anyone thinks they know of any patterns or charts I can add to the list please let me know!  If other people join (and I guess I'll have to wait and see..) I might put up an ideas list as well, so as suggestions or ideas come in we can keep track and hopefully between us tackle some of them.

I have some ideas Id like to try - I think it would be cool to, say, have regular themes based on a particular movie or a director.  And members could join in or not as they please, or make something entirely different yet sci fi related.

What do you think?  Maybe I'm just a total geek...  Grin

A Scifi KAL is so cool!!

I'm trying to finish up a Fake-a-Gamo or I'd join immediately. Love your links on the side and the star background on the blog is stunning (I've got a galaxy on my blog banner Smiley )

I'm a major sci-fi and fantasy fan. Lately, I've been tossing around the idea of trying to create a mini- knitted corset inspired by the mysterious voodoo priestess Tia Dalma from the new Pirates movie (fantasy). . . .

thats a strange looking garment!  i love the licorice jumper from her patterns..

join the kal blog anyway - i envisage it as somewhere to share ideas as well as post photos.  maybe we'll find an idea we like and we'll come up with a pattern together, who knows. Tongue

Thinking about it, I do very much like the trek jumpers from the original series, they're a flattering shape and colours (and uhuras dress is sooo lush), i quite fancy a jumper based on those.  or a stripey jumper inspired by Beetlejuice..  or a sleeveless cardigan inspired by Leias Hoth outfit..  see I reckon there's a million ideas we could have and if we even do a couple of them the world would be a happier place Grin

id also like to put some superhero charts together - wonder woman, superman, spiderman, flash gordon..

id just really like some like minded souls for company!

Ooh, a knitted Star Trek Sweater!  That would be so cool.  I love Spock.  I think I'd make a blue one, and wear it around the house proudly.

I do too! Very 60s mod. I've always thought that the standing neckline on the Eternal Embrace shrug is kind of space age mod.

I will be signing up this weekend! I need to find a fitting representative pic and figure out what I'll do. . .

it's a dress, a very short one like uhura's above.  i had a look round some other images of it, her name is Nurse Christine Chapel.

i'ld be up for trying to work out a pattern for the uhura/nurse chapel dress, although i'd be inclined to make it to wear with trousers because it is very short!  i'll blog up some pictures of the dress and tops.

Oh yeah, baby, good old Nurse Chapel.  She came aboard to look for her missing fiance, scientist Roger Corby, and fell in love with Spock. Frankly, I thought we were going to have to fight for him. (I'm a total geek Trekker and Spock fanatic  Kiss)

Hmm, I think the Knit1 Travel issue (prior to summer) had a kind of retro stewardess mini-dress pattern that could be modified. I'll take a look at when I get home from work.

The free Knitting Pattern Central Dress links might also have something that could be modified. . . .

I've already knit these socks:

And I'm working on an orange "Blob" for my brother (knit or crochet, I'm not sure yet).  Details in this blog post.  I don't know if it counts as sci-fi, but I think it look kinda alien!

My dream (and here comes the nerd) is to knit a pair of Stargate socks!  And then some Battlestar Galactica socks.  And then ...  Grin

I'm just off to sign up!

hey, did you guys see my post on the completed objects about the DND mind flayer that I knitted?  You can check it out on my blog.  I don't know how this thread totally evaded me, but I am looking forward to the KAL on the blog.  I have a lot of sci-fi ideas.

Oh man.  I've decided I need to make an R2D2 handbag.  Actually, I decided it would be a great candy bag for StarWars halloween costumes, but really, why limit it to that?

Yeah, no pattern or anything yet (although the beanie has definitely given me things to think about/work with), but sooon....  (probably post-xmas).

Have you guys seen these charts?? http://www.knitting-and.com/knitting/patterns/charts/star-trek.htm

My husband and little bro have me making them Spock sweaters with the enterprise on back. (unless I feel ambitious enough to make a Picard  chart, and the enterprise E chart for my bro)    My only problem is I'm having a difficult time finding an adult pullover pattern with set in sleeves and absolutely nothing interesting going on design-wise.  I am finding tons of raglan (which I prefer anyway, but they want set in), and the knitting store I got the yarn at didn't have anything of the sort!  I'll keep looking, but if you guys have any brilliant ideas pipe in!!

I'm working on a pair of socks for my boyfriend with the Klingon logo on them. I hope they turn out nice. I used the knitpro thing to make the chart ( http://www.microrevolt.org/knitPro/ ). He's a big geek, and so am I. Hopefully I'll have these finished before solstice!

I'm storming through the first of the "Iris Garden" socks from the Yahoo SixSox group.  They will have a definite sci-fi theme!  Progress so far can be seen here (Flickr site).  The sci-fi/geekiness gets done at the top!

Hmmm, guess this thread kind of died. I was going to knit socks with the Klingon logo, but that didn't work. So I decided to knit "Trekkie" into the cuff instead.

And on my foot:

They're not meant for me, so they're WAY too big. Hopefully my BF will love them.
