I'm thinking you can actually start out with a basic tank top. I know that Old Navy is have sales on their summer tanks.
Just cut up the center and make the front points by cutting them then add the buttons and holes.

Old Navy tanktops fit weird. Both me and my mom, who have completely different shapes- they're way big in the upper stomach/shoulder region. Maybe get one from somewhere else. Target maybe?
Or if you want that t-shirt type feel, I guess just chop up a t-shirt.

Just wanted to say though, completely OT, that I was in Delia*s today and totally salvated over EVERYTHING in there. I'd kill for like a mega shopping spree or something. They have the cutest, perfectly trendy stuff.

I must agree Delia's has such cute stuff, when I went in there, the only thing I could really see was this vest, because I had to hurry and leave I thought I was going to spend my whole paycheck. But thanks for the ideas, I will have to give it all a try when I get home from work tommorow.

There are some round neck vest patterns out there this season in one or two of the major pattern books.  I have seen them.  One of those with the back cut in would work perfectly!

Thanks, I will have to look around... I unfortunately didn't have time last night to do this but I am gonna look around first to see what I like before diving in.
