Over at one of my favorite knitting blogs - Knit & Tonic; Wendy was talking about fear today, and it got her commentors talking about what they were afraid of. This really got me thinking, because of course I have my own knitting phobias, but I really wondered what intimidates other people (specifically, you Craftsters!) Anyhoo, here's the question, what technique/style scares you the most? And, what inspires/motivates you to move past those fears to try something new?

I'm currently trying to get over my phobia of knitting in the round with Oh My Stars - Razor cami. Sweaters really scare me with lots of shaping and seaming! Socks also worry me, as I don't know if I have the attention span to finish 2!  Cheesy

I just got over cables with Wendy's Dream Swatch headwrap - I've made 2 versions! LOL

seaming isnt too bad honestly, theres a really easy stitch to do....is it mattress seam...or blanket seam one of the two but its easy and really secure trust me if i can do it u can!

Intarsia.  Both scary and (usually) I think intarsia'd things look bad.  Also grafting/Kitchener stitch--even though I know I can do it perfectly well, thinking about it makes me break out in a cold sweat! Smiley

What puts the fear of god into me is the thought of frogging something I've spent days on.

Whether it be because of mistakes, changing my mind on a colour or pattern, or it's been sitting there for months without even a glance, it's a fear of frogging I often think about whilst trying to catch some zzzzzzzzz's

Cable and Short rows scare the crap out of me.  I've been wanting to knit several items I've seen here but when I read the pattern and a cable needle or short rows are mentioned, I back away from it slowly.  I would have to take a class for those two.

Dropping a stitch is one of mine, mainly cause I still can't figure out how to fix them, and when I try to frog back, I can never get my needle back in correctly!
And, there are a certain pair of fair-isle socks I really want that I am afraid to try, (first try at socks + first try at fair isle = trouble)

I'm afraid of socks. Socks are my favorite thing in the world. I love socks, but I'm afraid to knit them.

Guess who's back?

Im scared of any pattern that calls for double pointed needles. Shocked  I dont think I will ever get the hang of them. Embarrassed Theres too much going on at once! I just stick with seams in my stuff!  Cheesy
