I taught myself to crochet about 8 months ago, and I can follow a standard pattern no problem, so I figure the next logical step would be writing my own pattern.

I'm clueless!!!

Anyone know basic pattern-writing tips? I'd just like to do simple amigurumi patterns, which i think would be easiest as they're just single crochet. Thank you.

I find it easiest to just kind of "free hand" until I figure out what I like.  Just be sure to write everything down as you're doing it!  I've made the mistake of not doing that and then, you can never reproduce the same thing!

I write out things long hand, then simplify down to regular pattern abbreviations.

I do the same thing. I like having the longer version to refer to if I find later on there's a mistake.
