Well.. it was meant to be a skirt originally, but once I started I realised it looked nothing like a skirt and much more like a shirt.

Basically, I cut off a tube of about 4 inches high at the bottom of the shirt. That's the part that goes over your bust. Take in the sides to make it fit.

Then I cut two rectangular-ish pieces for the bottom of the shirt. Since I was trying to make a skirt, I just guessed at the size, but it turned out to fit as a shirt.

Then sew together the sides of the above two pieces to fit over your torso. Now you have a tube, basically. With right sides together, sew top tube and bottom tube together. You basically have a tube top now. Hem the bottom of the tube top.

See the bit in the center of the neckline? I think it's called rouching, but I don't really know. I just sewed a line about two inches down from the top center of the shirt (without back stitching anywhere) and pulled the strings to make it bunch up. Then sewed over it to make the bunches stay in place. I don't really know if that's the right way to do it, but I just experimented...

Then cut a long strip about 3" wide for the strap. With right sides together, sew the sides together. Then turn strap inside in. Sew strap in place.

For the heart... I just cut a heart out of fabric and sewed it on, basically. I think you can buy iron-on stuff which might be better.

Hope that helps... I've never written a tute before.

I saw this when I was randomly searching Livejournal the other day.

I really like it. It's very cute. I might have to give the tut a try.
