I just had the greatest idea that my boyfriend (6'5" 450lbs) should be a lawn gnome for Halloween.... I have looked everywhere for a hat and cant find what I think is traditional... not floppy and pointy but up tall and curvy... ya know? Well I think I can crochet it and felt it for a good effect. I looked for patterns too haven't found anything , so I thought I would ask for your generous help. Any ideas? If I don't figure this out he will be a hula girl with a 5 foot tall afro wig.... Please... Help Me!  Shocked

Could you crochet a large triangle and then seam it up the back? Since you are felting it, it might not matter that it is seamed.

I did a quick google search and came up with a Smurf hat (which holds potential for me, plus I love the description of the hat) and a British site for more "traditional" stuff.

Good luck and post pictures . . . I think it sounds fab!

I love the idea of a 6'5" garden gnome.  I would probably take the easy way out and just sew it out of felt from the fabric store.  Definitely want to see a picture of that.
