I went to this show in Phila this weekend to check it out. Definitely felt pretty high end. Lots of jewelry, safe looking... pearls, semiprecious, and for those who want to look like an artsy 50something year old, dichroic glass; woven or batiked silk garments; some pottery and wood items; judaica; and lots of glass bowls, vases and ornaments.

I believe that booths are about $1500+ and you have to provide slides, etc. It's only open to resellers of crafts (art galleries, gift stores) so hopefully you end up make that money back plus...

yes, this is one of several very high end wholesale shows in the u.s. there's a similar show in san francisco in early august, and i'm sure there are others as well.

I worked for an artist who sold her work at that show as well as the NY Gift Show. They are definietely more high end, and you're selling your work wholesale, as they're only open to the trade.  She did a phenomenal business though...hundreds of orders.  (I was her only employee, and these multitudes of orders came pouring in after these shows, and we just busted out butts assembly-line style painting these dolls.)There is a show in Feb and one in July. She did this for about 6 years, and through that show, a company called Silvestri asked to license her designs (she designs everything, they manufacture, market & distribute all of it) She signed a 5 year contract with them, for two lines a year (summer & winter) and now her stuff is all over the place. Now a greeting card company picked up her stuff, a rubber stamp company, and another big licensing compnay. It's crazy. She's making millions.  She just does the fun part of designing, and then just sits back and rakes in the dough. So.....one would think I learned something working there for 5 years....maybe I could get off my butt & start my own company??? Argh!!!  Someday, I'll get my act together. This is her stuff. www.dollymamas.com It's mostly only the original stuff....now there are pajamas, and alarm clocks, and makeup bag, and purse, and cocktail napkins, and....my god..you name, they had her design it. There's going to be a whole kids line coming out. It's very inspirational. She just had a germ of an idea, and then.....it totally took off. I like to think that all of my slaving played a part.
