On Friday, my mom taught me how to use her sewing machine, and I convinced her to lend it to me.

Friday I finished the first valence. The second on Sunday, and the third today. I am very pleased with myself.

Here's a closeup of the fabric (it's more red, less orange in real life)

And here's one valence on a window:

And here's another window. This picture also shows her bedspread. What can I say -- she likes bright colors. I'm impressed with her fashion sense, though -- I thought the curtains would clash terribly with the bedspread, and little miss not quite 6 was right -- it looks great!

Any feedback appreciated. Next up, the living room...

I really do LOVE this.
I'm moving into a new place soon and your post came at the perfect time.  I want to experiment with colors and you have beautiful bold colors in that room.
That room is gorgeous.

Wow those are too cute and springy!

Did you need any special hardware to hang those curtains? Did you use a springrod?

Thanks!!

The hardware was here when we bought the house -- it's special brackets for valences -- shaped like this:

The short ends attach to the wall, and the long end is about 3.5" wide and runs parallel to the wall. This helps them stick out. Some of the puffiness is from the amount of fabric -- over 2* the window width.
