Where you used the longer clay tiles almost reminds me of the tiny-tiny clay strings that Cynthia Toops used to make her micro-mosaics... hurts my eyes as well as my head just looking at them.  She's a very meticulous person though!

I haven't done a mosaic with polymer tiles yet myself (have done a small caned one though), but it's definitely on my list.  At a recent guild meeting, Kim Korringa had a divided plastic box just filled with the tiny tiles she'd cut from baked Skinner blend sheets, plus some of the mosaics she'd made from them, which inspired me yet again... sigh.  Guess I didn't get a photo of any of her finished items (and they don't appear on her site, just some caned mosaics), but I did get a shot of her tiles:
