My first FOs!

I've jumped both feet into the crochet kiddy pool! I set myself a task to make something and use up one skein of yarn to see if I liked crochet. (I have a bad habit to get only part way into trying something and saying "nope! done!", so a full skein meant I'd have to really try.)

The first skein was Bernat Handicrafter Cotton in Playtime.

And I made a dishcloth (which is used as a trivet, because I have a thing about washcloths.) That whole ending the row and what counted as a stitch had me a bit obviously confused...

Then I made a coaster to try this working in the round thing:

and that finished off the skein and I was hooked! (Pun unintended. Oi.) I bought a crapload of yarn, the happy hooker, and took out nearly every book on crochet in the library. I now have in the making 2 shawls, 2 hats, a baby blanket for my new niece and next up I'm tackling the Go for Baroque lace sweater.

But I finished a hat too! I call this alternately "the wow, that's why you check gauge" hat or the "little miss muffet" hat. It's supposed to be the "Betty" hat (the green one, can't link directly, it's a pdf) but... gauge... yeah. It's made with Marble by James C Brett in Heathers. Modelled by my lovely daughter, who has refused absolutely to ever wear it for real.

Wow! Both your hat and your daughter are way cuter than the hat and model on the pattern. What yarn did you use? I love those soft mottled purples...Too bad she wont wear it, she looks great in it!

Yeah, I'm not much a fan of that guage thing either yet. Although, if you're not making things where guage matters (like the scarf, blanket or coaster) you can happily ignore it. )

cottontop, I used "marble by James C Brett", it's an acrylic and a link to a site showing the other colours is in my first post.

aztecr3ina, I have the bad habit of throwing myself at whatever I'm doing without taking time and care -- that usually comes after when I get something like the hat. It turned out great, I think I'm going to toss it on my etsy shop, but I really did want to make the one the pattern shows. *laughs* Trying again but doing the pre-steps first this time.
