Pink Frosting - amigurumi deer
«
on:
July 12, 2006 12:42:11 AM »
So I was inspired by a post on craftster to make a deer. I set out to make something that really looked like my own, something someone could see and know I made it. It kind of reminds me of the lamb I made, which was one of the first patterns I made on my own. The colors.. remind me of donuts at my local grocery store. Hence, Pink Frosting.
All of the body parts are crocheted as one piece, sans the attachment of the legs/head/tail to the body (which is one piece also, including the neck). The back legs have a bend in them so the deer can sit down - kind of - even though it is anatomically incorrect. The front legs also have a 'knee' in them, which is really just a row of slip stitches. The rear end is decorated with felt hearts & magenta iridescent beads, which make me very happy
There are no wires or tricks to this one - it stands on its own.
I plan on making her a matching companion, who will of course be Chocolate Frosting, with a similar color scheme. Yum!

ohmygod, ridiculously cute.
i'd be interested in buying the pattern, if you're planning on selling it.
or, if you need anyone to test the pattern before you sell it....
it's just so cute!

might have to try making a body with neck now that I've made an inchworm and realised how to do "bends".

That's such a great idea! I've always used wire in my toys and it is a pain...besides not being safe for little kids..I hate making toys that can't be played with! I'm not sure how to go about it (just a row of slip stitches? That's it?) But once again, this is adorable, pureeva! I bet it will sell very fast.

Terrific again! Her adorable bow and the way your worked out the legs is fantastic. Do you put bead in the legs to help hold her up?
You know, people always say to do that and I always forget to do it! I should have done that to give it added weight.. but its just stuffed with plain polyfil. I wouldn't say that it stands up
well
(one push and it falls over), but it stands up. Thank goodness for those bendy legs!

It depends I guess. Sometimes I am inspired by a doodle I make, or I sit down and draw to try and get an idea for one. Most of the time though it's just something that pops into my head. Like I'll find something like a button or a fabric swatch or something that will inspire me to make an entire amigurumi based on it. Maybe it's the color, maybe it's the way I might use it. There are lots of other things that Im influenced by too - my love of Japanese stationery & toys especially.

Man, almost two years later and this topic is still getting comments.
(I had a Craftster account like 3+ years ago, but I can't remember my login name and I don't own the domain I was registered under anymore anyway -- that is, i don't have the same email address, either. It's a pain. I reregistered the other day, because I thought I should post more and lurk less.)
Anyway, I think this is my favorite amigurumi I've ever seen anywhere -- though I also thought Chocolate Frosting was adorable, as well as the astro-mouse and the dressed kitty (Nanette)? Total and complete love for your work.
