I am new to the site and didn't come across any threads on this topic yet...

Any 'old hats' at lip balm making know the secret to pouring it in the tubes without getting a hole in the center from air bubbles?? the first batch i made was perfect, but now every single batch i pour has this stinkin hole in it.

Any suggestions/tips would be helpful!!

Thanks.

It's less about the air than it is that the oils & butters contract when they cool. I didn't do a lot of lip balms, but about 20 million body butters. What I would do is fill the tube about 80-90% of the way, wait for it to solidify then make an X in the top (to help the next layer adhere better) and top it up. Always got a nice rounded top to it doing that. Smiley

Hope that helps.

I will try that for the next tube.  Cheesy

I have heard that it has to do with the temperature of the balm when it pours. Is this true?

Any other suggestions someone new to lip balming?

There are TONS of websites out there with good recipes for lip balm. The first place I saw it was on marthastewart.com. She has a simple recipe that works. The best bet would be to search the web. I recommend finding recipes that contain beeswax vs petroleum since it is better for your lips. I also think there are some recipes or websites here from past chats, so just search for lip balm and see what pops up...

Hope that helps!
