Ive seen alot of topics that are 18+/mature/strong language with pictures, and sadly, if you look at the recent posts with pictures there is no warning of up-comming mature/language content. i was wondering if there would be any way at all of having a check box that if the content was mature, you would check it and the picture wouldn't show up in the recent posts with pictures section or the whole topic wouldn't show up in the recent posts with pictures. i know there are many younger crafters who use this site, and i didnt think some of these things are appropriate for them.

perhaps the topic would be able to be seen along with the text, but the picture would be a heart or star so you know pictures are available, but young crafters wouldnt get the shock of a lifetime.

just my 2 cents, but please consider it!

edit: does no one think this is a good idea? i searched the topic "mature" and got 6 pages of results...at about 30 per page thats 180 topics, which isnt much but its enough to have its own board!

I just came to this section of the board to post something like this. While I'm pretty much impossible to offend that's kind of irrelevant. There are a lot of adult crafts posted that not everyone will want to see and I agree that it kind of makes the whole marking them as such thing pointless when they appear in the hot new topics and recent posts sections. It probably doesn't happen often but I think it's enough to make this  a worthwhile addition. The fact that craftster allows topics like those to be posted at all is, as far as I'm concerned, a great thing - but they should be handled in a way that respects everyone's right to choose not to look.

exactly, perhaps a star  with mature on it could replace the pictures so people can know the topic exists, but not see the pics untill they go to the topic. its just my 7 year old neighbor saw some things here an craftster and used "her new word" in a comment about a tv show she saw. i just had my jaw on the floor.

What about when you sign up you give your bith month and year, and anything with mature content could be filtered? Have a check box near the post button (where it may be noticed) and if it's checked, it only appeared to 18+ members?

I am not offended (unless it was some wingfic/slash/furry stuff...squickNo, don't google it...if you don't know already you don't want to!) easily, but I don't really want my kids making vagina wallets, either!

I browse alot, more than I post, and I don't know if there's a way to have maybe a warning, and then a picture that says "Mature Content" and... I don't know, possibly be able to be clicked through some link on the actual bored to see the post? Someway to give people to chance to see the images? Or maybe that's just a silly idea.

I guess I could be considered a "young craftster", and I'm not really offended by some language and images, but I definitely agree to something that a twelve-year-old or thirteen-year=old might see might not be appropriate.

thats exactly what i said in the first post. a pic to replace the mature content, then when you click the topic, you can see the pic! im going to be 16 in sept, so it doesnt bother me, but like i said, my neighbor came up with some new words that i wouldnt want any 7 year old to say

I'm going to be 16 in August! So yeah, I agree... I don't know if you go on DeviantArt.com or anything, but they have a mature block that you can put on or off, and you just click the image again and the picture will pop up as the original is.

I think it'd be a good idea, espescially with a few things I've seen on the site while browsing, once again - not that it bothers me.

I'm concerned, not so much for myself (I'm fifteen) but for other viewers - especially younger people.  And even me: I don't want to look at vagina books or crochet genetilia either! Additionally there's the problem of using strong language for younger members. (We all know they know it already, but a lot of the time it's just unnecessary.)

I think that a symbol or just some kind of recognition that it was a mature topic would be really useful. I hope this gets more attention. I love that as users we are allowed the freedom to write using language freely, and contribute pictures of projects we have created as artists, despite any sexual or other connotations. But there should be some kind of barrier at least to protect younger members.

We ban anyone that we see is posting porn or spam.  We have no way of knowing who is going to be a spammer when they sign up.  Honestly, there isn't a huge amount of mature things posted.  I highly doubt it will get its own board.  We require that people post "mature" or "adult" in the subject line, so that should stop you from looking if you aren't interested in that sort of thing.

I agree that there isn't quite enough demand to give mature topics their own board, but I think the main issue being addressed in this post is that the Recent Posts With Pictures and Hot New Topics pages don't give the option of not clicking.

I do agree with the above poster; you're right, that is the main issue at hand. Perhaps there is some kind of search filter which could be implemented? I've had very little experience in building programs, but I do know that there are a few functions with which you can have "If it has _____ in the title, don't show it" kind of thing.

yea, exactly. i just said board as another way of seperating the adult topics from the others...i didnt think it would happen but some sort of filter would be good....

I look at craftster lots while on my lunch break at work, and when a topic with adult content comes up under "Hot New Topics," it can be a little embarassing or unprofessional.  I'm betting craftsters with kids have this problem too.  I was thinking maybe there could be a way for people posting images with adult content to flag their own posts (the way people already do in the title, but maybe with a button or something) that would keep them from popping up as a hot new topic?  I'm not sure if there's a way to do that, so but it would be helpful  Smiley

Leah's been working on systems to take care of this for a long time--it's tricky though! The best option in the meantime is to browse the site through the category boards...people are almost always great about putting in the title if it's adult content, so you can avoid clicking on those posts if you want.

Just know, though, that this is definitely on the to-do list!

What if a little box was added. You check the box, it appears as NWS automatically, and is kept away from the Hot New Topics.
Once I ran across some pasties in there. Woah.

did that subject get your attention? HA.

i've been out of the craftster loop for a bit, so this may have already been discussed. but i was looking through the hot new topics the other day, and saw some grand penis candies! (um, i don't think i've ever used grand as an adjective before, but it seemed appropriate there.) now, this could bother me less. and i can't see it bothering me if i had kids and they saw it, although who knows. but, to some people, it might be offensive, and there are a LOT of awfully young kids on here.

so i thought of an idea (and no, it's not fixing my AC this time, leah):
maybe when you upload photos, there could be a yes/no option about whether the picture could be offensive to some? and if so, the picture would not be visible to users under a certain age, and not visible on "hot new topics" and "recent with pics" for those who choose a "offensive picture block" option on their profile? i know i've heard of people using their comp in the family room...and when you scroll down through those things, a "WARNING: OFFENSIVE" title is often seen after the giant genitalia.

eh, leah has enough stuff to do. but just a thought.

I definitely like this idea! I'm one of those kids on here and I make a point to avoiding titles that could be offensive/inappropriate, but they do show up on Recent Pictures and Hot New Topics and I see it whether I would like to or not.

I like the idea in any form, really.  We've batted around a few ideas as far as checkboxes, tags, etc.

Good thoughts!
