These remind me of a Christmas gift I made for my grandmother when I was a little girl.  She was a seamstress.  I used the cap from a can of Aqua-Net hairspray.  Thanks for the memory.  Yours are too cute.

Ok I have been meaning to try this for ages, since I also saw them in a Japanese craft book and then in lots of other places like here!  I finally made one today:

What do you think?

I'm wondering if it needs a bow around it like the ones dottydot originally posted?  I was thinking a thin navy blue one to match the fabric, but perhaps it's ok just plain too  Huh

Oh, and one other question for anyone whose made these, do you find they need something to way them down at all?  When I try and pull a pin out the entire pincushion insists on coming with it!  Embarrassed

I'm very into Britney Spears' early work, before she sold out, so mostly her, um, finger painting and macaroni art.

If the pincushion is a bit too light try putting some dry rice in the bottom of the bottle cap to give it a little weight.  Or if that's still too light, try lead fishing weights or BB's.

So cute!  And perfect for taking to the sewing machine when you just need a place to stick the few pins you have in the fabric you are using.
Well done.
