if you're like me and like small projects for instant gratification, you should make these gloves.  they're infinitely adaptable.  i made them today riding with my dad to get his new freightliner work truck.  (boy is it sexy, if you like that sort of thing.)  took me an hour.  they're comfortable, and i feel like a very hygenic hobo.

14sts= 4" on size 7 Am. needles.  row gauge not important.
1.5 oz Sugar 'n Cream kitchen cotton.
size Sm (M, L)
make two.
CO 23(27, 31) sts.
work even for 5" in stockinette stitch, minimum.
BO.
Fold wrong side out and seam for 1/2".  Leave 2" space, or whatever space will accomodate your thumb well, and continue seaming to bottom edge.  repeat for other glove.

I've made ones like that before!   Grin

I really would like to try one in a really thin yarn and small needles.  all the ones I made were really thick.  it would be cool to use sef striping sock yarn.

I really love how incredibly simple that pattern is!!!! As a relatively new knitter, its nice to find things that i can sit down and make in one stitch n bitch session or,one longish car drive...thanks bunches!

so glad you'll be able to make use of it.  and if you're not fond of purling, i'm sure they'd look fine in garter st too.

The Fall issue of Family Circle Easy Knitting also has a great pattern for a ribbed version of these.
