I heard from PurpleHeather that she received her present, but does not have regular internet access right now.  So, I am posting pictures of the fingerless mittens I made for her.  This is a fairly simple braid cable pattern, and I used Karaoke yarn, which is a 50/50 soy silk/wool blend (very soft and comes in pretty self-striping colorways).

Happy Birthday PurpleHeather!

I am glad that I took the time to line up the stripes as best as I could.  Originally the second mitten was way off, and I was about 2 inches from finishing it before I decided that I really couldn't let it go like that and took it all apart.  It was totally worth the effort.  Hopefully soon it will be cool enough that PurpleHeather will get some use out of them.   Wink

Me, too.  I love cables.  I love making them and I love the way they look.  Put a cable on anything and I'm like, "Oooh...I wanna make that."  This was my first time cabling without a cable needle, and it really helped the project work up quickly.  Especially as I started using a cable needle, and kept getting it stuck on other parts of the mitten and it was frustrating, so I taught myself the no cable needle method while working on the first mitten and after a few rounds it was a piece of cake.  Woo-hoo!

inle_rah--I am in awe of cables!!!  I have never even tried because they look so difficult and complex!!  Those are amazing!!  And, I am also very respectful of the fact that you wanted to do such quality work that you lined up the stripes so well!!!  That is a sign of an excellent craftsperson!!  WOW!!!

(and purple is one of my favorite colors....and, did I say WOW already?)  To do something like this for a fellow craftster as a gift is just too heartwarming....I am sure purpleheather will use them and remember the kindness and effort you put forth...WOW

I wisted those armwarmers as soon as I saw them -- so great! I started my own pair and hated them, so armwarmers are deffinately on my list.

For those of you who haven't done cables they are surprisingly easy-peasy

I really really really would love to have Interweave Knits Spring 2007 for those Eunny Chang entrelac socks. . . Does anyone want to swap for it?! I have yarn, I can sew, embroider, knit.
