I am going to make a raq quilt/frayed/etc. Any suggestions on the best way to cut the batting? Thanks so much...

a lot of the rag quilts don't have batting at all.

But if you are doing squares cut the bat squares an inch and a quarter (1 1/4 ) smaller than the squares for the quilt.  that should give you enough wiggle room.

with the rag quilts i've made, instead of batting i use flannel, then you cut one square of top, back and flannel all the same size. Flannel frays really nicely!

the jean is my backing, the red is the flannel i used, and the khaki is the top fabric
