Hi everybody,

Inspired by a post on whip-up, I wonder whether anybody in the craft world does exchanges in stead of swaps or selling. What I mean is that I would like to exchange homemade craft items for others, but not like a swap. Although I like the idea of swaps, often having a theme, and often with the purpose of learning new techniques, I will probably never engange in one, since I am afraid I will not finish on time, or the result will be rotten...

Rather I would like to exchange items that will come as no surprise - that is on a 'what you see is what you get' basis - the exchangers having arranged beforehand, and based on descriptions and pictures, what they will swap. Also, I would rather receive something in a craft technique I do not master. I guess it would be like selling your stuff on etsy and then buying something else on etsy for that money, but then without the money involved. I put on an 'exchange shadow blog' to my blog (to date only one item up for exchange, though, do not expect too much...), but the problem with that is that the people visiting my blog are crocheters/knitters like me. And I would like to exchange with paper crafters, soap makers, button makers etc.!

So the question is: Does anybody do this? Is there a place on the net where you can go and arrange this? Is there a web ring? Could something like this be done on craftster?

Rineke

The only thing close to that, that i can think of is "personal swaps". which is made between two craftster users who've found eachother somehow (by that i mean they met up/Pm'd  with eachother to organize there own  swap..and talk about rules and such) And they organize it completely on their own within eachother. If that makes any sense, and if i'm wrong correct me.

Also, i dont think this post should be in here..mayby in "new swap ideas"..i'm not quite sure.

Yes I believe you are right - it would fall under the personal swap, also i would have to check, but I think you also need to follow the swap rules. Just so swappers can feel a little more secure about sending to someone they don't know. There are lots of members that will put "I <3 personal swaps", "I do personal swaps", "I'm into personal swap", etc...  somewhere in their signature line. I suggest you add something like that to your signature line and start posting away to meet your swap requirmets just in case it's needed and people get to know you by your posts.

this is a post letting you know you can not post wanting to do a personal swap in the swap threads -

If you already have stuff made that you're looking to get rid of, you could check out the Backwards Swap that just started:

Also, I'm not at all familiar with how it works, but maybe you could try the craftster classifieds.

Thanx for the replies, everybody. I am new to craftster and to swapping, so this was really helpful! In the mean time I also found a site where people can exchange stuff, and art/craft is one of the categories. The site is called 'Gimme your stuff' and although it is not exactly the thing I was looking for, I will give it a go.

cheers, Rineke

As k mentioned, the Craftster classifieds... it's more of a trading post, as there is to be no selling only trading.  Smiley  Most have pix so you can get that "what you see is what you get" feel you had mentioned.  Smiley

Check 'em out.. http://www.craftster.org/classifieds/
