Hiya

I'm new in Osaka, and I'd really love to chat with other crafters who might be living in this area. I'm mainly looking to swap ideas and find out if there are any art/craft/photography clubs here that I can join for a bit of social activity!

Anyone around Tokyo I'd like to hear from as well, as next year I'll have to move over there.

Thanks! Cheesy

I live in Gifu-ken, which is about 2 hours by train from Osaka. Living in Osaka, you should have no problem finding fellow crafters, I would think. I live in the suburbs, so there aren't any craft groups around here, but I initiated my own, very local group, mostly with the JET community nearby. (I'm here with the JET Program.)

Sorry I don't have any specific groups to recommend -- just wanted to say "y?koso" and good luck in your search!

I have also just moved to Osaka.  I haven't found any fabric stores, but I haven't been here long.  There are probably some around here somewhere.... I did find one really awesome consignment store in Ishibashi, so I have hope for more such non-brand opportunities here.

I am interested in personal, more-art swaps.  If you are interested in an earnest and unique package, please PM me.  Equivalent trade isn't necessary, and while I intend to send more-art, I am not adverse to receiving more craft!

Hey, I am living somewhere between Kobe and Osaka, and have been slowly discovering some crafty stores.  In Osaka, there is a small shop on the 2nd floor of the Shinsaibashi Daimaru, south building.  The website is here http://homepage1.nifty.com/avril/
It's small (mostly sewing/yarn things), but it's the only craft store I've been to in Osaka.

I don't know about social events -- I would be interested in finding out what is around, but I have no idea at the moment.

Ooh, I work in Gifu-shi (though I live in Aichi). No I don't know about any craft groups either (though you could probably find classes for traditional Japanese crafts).
As to supplies - its amazing what you can pick up at Daiso (100-yen shop).

i'm in Kobe, where there's a Yuzawaya and Tokyu Hands (both near Sannomiya).  i think the Tokyu Hands in Osaka (Shinsaibashi) is about the same size as the one in Kobe.

since i'm a felter, my most pressing craft supply is wool, which i buy in Kyoto, at kin no hitsuji: http://hitsuji.co.jp/. there is also an amazing handmade market in Kyoto at the Chion-ji temple on the 15th of every month.

for classes, i have had good luck at the Itami Art Center:

its a little out of the way, and all in japanese (as far as lessons are concerned) but with a nice community class vibe.

i'd love to learn about more crafty happenings in kansai,
cheers,
liz

There is a really awesome fabric store just a stone's throw away from the Takashimaya in Namba.  Take the Sennichimae (I think) shopping arcade north.  You can't miss it with all of the displays of yarn and such.

I have also found some small stores in little arcades in Tennoji.  One in the basement 2? of the Abeno beruta.  If you know of the Ikuno main arcade strip (close to Teradacho station) there are acouple stores that sell lots of yarn and craft patterns.  They are small, but there are 2-3 of them.

PM me if you want to meet up in Osaka sometime for a crafty time!

Ah i also found the link I had to this store as well.
They have several craft making / meet and greet session things.
I don't know if you speak Japanese...
but here is the webpage http://www.abc-craft.co.jp/
it:s in the Jeans Mate building.  Has 4 floors or so.

Calendar of their classes
http://www.abc-craft.co.jp/calender.php?t=1

Each of the classes has a class fee, and then possibly a materials fee, but it depends on the class.
