I just moved to Reno less than a month ago, so I don't have any clue myself.  I'd love to find some new crafty people and groups though!   Smiley

Cheesy  I was bored and all over craigslist.org last night.  Someone posted about starting a knitting circle for twentysomethings in town. Not sure if you knit, but she might be a start.  I've only moved here myself at the beginning of March. Have you found anything fun yet?  La Bussola over by the casinos is kind of a fun store to walk through.  My honey and I mostly stay at home waiting for our netflix to arrive.  Have you been over the mountain to Lake Tahoe yet? It's only about 40 minutes away.   Cool

Me! Me! I'm here!
I moved to Reno last September from Vancouver, BC. I'm not allowed to work so I computer, craft and eat lots of food. Nor do I drive. I haven't heard of any craft groups, except for some knitters that get together at a library in Sparks (I think).
Where do you two move here from?

Smiley  I moved here from Martinez, CA.  I grew up in the SF bay area.  We came up here to be near my boyfriend's dad.  Reno is a far way from B.C.  What brought you to the desert?  Eventually we are supposed to take a trip tovancouver ourselves. My boyfriend really liked it there and was thinking about someday moving north.  Do you play mmorpgs?

I haven't found anything fun here in Reno yet, but then again I've been trying to get us all unpacked and settled on top of being 7 mos. pregnant, lol.  We haven't even made it to Tahoe yet, but hopefully we will soon.  Most nights we're watching our netflix too, lol.  I don't know how to knit (but I do crochet and was amazed at the yarn selection the Ben Franklins had here, sooooo much more than in Hawaii!) and it seems that those are the only groups I ever find.  Sad

Miss M- I don't know what mmorpgs is  Embarrassed
I moved here because I met a guy that lived here and we decided to get married. He had a better paying job, so that's why I'm here rather than Vancouver. I love BC/ Washington state area. Oregon is nice too. I don'y know why, but I miss the rain.

I have lived here since September and still haven't been to Tahoe or Pyramid Lake. Which sucks because I miss the water SO much.

Amygada- do you do crafting other than crocheting?

mmorpg = Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game  I've been addicted to Everquest and WoW, but finally broke free a few months ago.  The hubby wants to start playing Vanguard once that comes out so I'm sure I'll end up zoned into that, lol.

Besides crochet I do some sewing (very badly I might add.  I sooooo need a new sewing machine.  Mine is older than my mother.), embroidery, I've made a couple pieces of jewelry, and random projects I've picked up on craftster.  So basically I try to do a little bit of everything.  Smiley

I'm here too!  Just moved here in March '06 with my husband and (now) 20 month old.  If you're still looking for crafters, I crochet and sew (with the occasional "whatever" craft!) and am having a hard time meeting people who are cool!

Thanks!

Hi!  I'm Jennifer in Reno.  I've been here a year and a half.  I'm 23, married, pregnant, and eating a popsicle.  I love anything crafty, but have kind of gotten lazy the past couple of months.  My favorite things are sewing, knitting, painting, and baking and candy making!

There is a Stitch and Bitch group in Reno, for those who do not know.  It is on Thursdays at 7pm at Bibo's Coffee on Mt. Rose St. between Plumas and Arlington.  You don't have to be into knitting to go, we like crocheting, too!  Kelly is the girl in charge and her email is stitchandbitchreno@yahoo.com if you are interested!

I'm from Reno, I've lived here all my life...I'm 17 and graduating this year.  I've yet to find any really crafty groups here =/  But it's nice to see some other Renoites around here...

I mostly sew/reconstruct things, and do some painting of garments as well.  I wish I could knit well, my mom taught me when I was 8 or 9, but I haven't made it past anything but a scarf yet...

I'm in Reno!!

I recently started knitting, and I am learning to crochet.  I don't have a lot of crafty friend so I'd love to meet new people to craft with and go thrift store shopping together!

I'm 21 (I've lived in Reno 10 years) and I live with my boyfriend Bobby and my cat Rafiki.  I love sewing and all kinds of crafts and I am addicted to World of Warcraft (I'm on Cenarius, name is Phiina or Haphapint in case you wanna know)

So a rundown of my fave crafts are:
Knitting
Learning to Crochet
Scrapbooking
Sewing
Making Jewelery
Web design (it's sorta crafty! :-p)
Random other crafts as well!

PM me and we can get to know eachother!

I've lived here all my life and I haven't heard of any crafting groups for anyone over the age of 10 or under the age of 50. I'd love to know of some.

I crochet cross-stitch and sew and I'm trying to get into polymer clay

OMg, I have been looking for all you guys!!

I live in South Reno, and I am trying to get a Reno Chapter of the Craft Mafia going (started, actually), and it has been like pulling teeth!

I have had one, very small meeting happen already, just as a "get acquainted", but we could really use more. There is a blog site if any of you are interested, and I have been trying to get the already interested parties to give me an indication of when they want another meeting.

We have set-up to worry about, and dues, but we can't even get off the ground without atleast 5 solidly and consistently interested people.

If any of you guys and gals are bored and want to help get us off the ground, please comment over at the blog site (and leave an e-mail so I can make you an admin)!

I am on Khaz Modan Server.

Im in Double Diamond, and I'm trying hard to get another meeting set up, but I can't seem to get anyone to remember to read the blog for updates. I have been trying for 2 weeks to get one scheduled. Me and another person are desperately trying to get it off the ground, but we need relatively consistent attendance and serious people to do it, since it is definitely more "involved" than just a regular club.

Her and I have start-up fees taken care of, but there is no freaking way we are willing to front all the annual dues by ourselves, it is pricy for just 2 people. We are trying to set up positions so we can get the final paperwork and incidentals done (they have specific requirements).

We are hoping to do craft fairs and such, and have occasional speakers and demonstrations at meetings. Maybe we can get some discounts out of them. I would like to get "Going Batty" to offer us a discount, since they are the closest fabric store. But right now, what we need is more interested members.

The other girl helping out is just beginning roller derby, odd coincidence! I would love to do it too, just haven't skated in years, except rollerblading in college. Maybe you can help me get back on my feet, I would so love to join!

Just go to renocraftmafia.blogspot.com and comment with your e-mail and ill let you post, and i'll delete your comment so not everyone has your info.

Oh my gosh, this is just too funny.  I play wow, live on double r, have been looking for a reno craft mafia for months (even though I have no formal business), and also want very much to Roller Derby with the Demons.  I'm going to the practice tonight at 7, skateless though.  Too bad I'm moving away to Sacto in August.  Maybe I'll see ya there?

Ha ha!  See, all cool girls in Reno either craft or derby (or both!!!)!

Just FYI for you derby wannabes, just come on by!  We practice at the Downtown Rink on the River at 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 7pm on Sundays (although that may be changing with Art Town now upon us).  Or for more info, check out www.battlebornderbydemons.com!  And yes, I was probably there, Miss Mordia...I go by the name Fitts N' Giggles.

Heather, I'll be posting on your craft mafia site so look for me!  I definitely want more info, etc.

I will be moving to Reno at the end of them month with every intention of staring up a Reno chapter of The Bad Girls of Craft. I would also like to get involved with the Reno Craft Mafia-Perhaps Mafia for the Die Hards and Bad Girls for the floaters?  Bad girls of Craft being a little less involved. I'm excited though, to be moving up there, and also plan to check out the derby team when i unpack my skates. I was skating with my local team until I sprained my ankle.

I Sew, knit, and spin mostly, but do a lot of other stuff as the inspiration hits.

I hope you end up having better luck than I. It is almost impossible to find people here to do anything, and 90% of the people who I do find, pitter out almost immediately. I originally had 6-7 people interested in doing the Craft Mafia, so I put up a site for easier setting up of meetings and whatnot, and within one month, I'm back down to me and one other firm member, with the others not even returning my emails. It is very frustrating, especially since all the hard work I have put into it has been for naught. I hate doing a ton of work for nothing.

I would more than anything like to get together with people to craft just to have fun. Selling would be nice, but it seems to be a hopeless dream at this point. Much more of this, and I'm gonna give up!

Having talked to the organizer and founder of the San Diego Bad Girls of Craft, I think this is a normal thing for groups to go through. You just need to keep with it and it will grow. It sounds like there are a lot of people interested, word of mouth will get around. I know I never would have found the Bad Girls if I hadn't tried roller derby.

also, she started a Yahoo Group for communicating and it really helped us all keep in touch. Plus we were able to visit each other's websites and stuff. Perhaps that might be helpful? BTW, I got the email, I'm set. Thanks!

For any of you crafty girls that are interested in the Derby girls, come check us out today in Downtown Reno.  We're on the Rink on River and we are having a bout. Krzq will be there, we have at least 4 live bands playing today.  Doors open @ 5, the bout begins at 7.  Tickets are $10  & a percentage of proceeds go to local charities.  We are always looking for more skaters so come check us out!

I discovered jimmy beans wool on the corner of McCarrren and S Virginia the other day. It's in the same center as Toys R Us. If you turn on Keitski (spelling?) you'll find a Joann's (next to harbor freight on the right ) and some kind of craft mall, but I don't know what is in there.
