Growing up in the late 70’s early 80’s, Princess Leia was my hero.
Whenever I played with my buddies at school or in the yard, I always wanted to be Princess Leia.
She was smart, strong, and courageous and held her own with Luke and Han Solo.
And who wouldn’t want to be the girl who ends up with Han Solo. *swoon*

I have made a few Sock Monkeys before, but I have never done more work for one than this little monkey.

I tried several different options for ‘The Buns’ and finally ended up making my own wig from
Wool -mohair yarn. (I love Lamb’s Pride <3)

For the dress I made my own pattern. It has a single snap in the back and can be removed.
And I think it’s even made from that same polyester that became popular just after the original Star Wars.

The eyes were the hardest for me and I think I tried about 8 different options before deciding to go with buttons and embroidery.

For the little blaster, I tried to make a good looking one, but decided I was better off altering a toy.
So, I found a little gun the right size and gave it a custom paint job.

Now, If I could just get my hair to do ‘The Buns’.

This is so incredibly sweet! And her face, the eyes! You did an awesome job. So the dress is removable? What about her hair, is it permanent? The buns look so good too, not braided like when I tried to put my hair in buns  A million points to you!

Yep, I always try to make clothes removable if I can. The back has a slit at the neck and on snap on the collar band, and the waist is tied in the back.
The hair is sewn-on, but I made the wig to be all one piece before putting it on.
So if it needed to be removed you could snip the threads on the wig and remove it without too much trouble.

Hahaha, the photoshopped scene from Star Wars made me laugh out loud. This is fantastic, especially the hair!!

I had tried a few other options first, a pre-made doll wig (didn't look good made into buns) then I tried to make my wig from fake hair (yikes! this was hard and looked awful!) then I decided to try yarn. I had the lamb's pride left over from a project and since it was the perfect color I went with that.

The yarn was not too hard to work with.
I cut the yarn in very long strips and arranged them on a scrap piece of sock material, pinned them in place, and sewed them down the center of the fabric.
Then I positioned it on the monkey and sewed the scrap down and made the buns. It could be removed and reattaced if there was ever a need.
