Red thick girl skirt---need help!
«
on:
July 02, 2006 07:27:50 PM »
I made my first skirt today! I was trying to do the uni-many-options-dress thing and I completed it but wasn't happy. All the options made me indecisive.
So I made this with the material--It is a multi-layered--semi--pleated red skirt:
Do you think it is too red? I wear a lot of black---do you think I should add some black lace to one of the layers, like the mini-top layer? Any other suggestions?

I like it with just the red. But I know how you feel about it, I don't wear red because it screams LOOK AT ME a little too loudly for my taste.

I really like it. You could add some thin black ribbon or buttons to balance it out for wearing with black tops?

Whoa! This is interesting to me....I was thinking about making a dress from that tute. But, I have large, ginormous boobs, so I decided against it. So, I have been using the fabric I got for that dress to make a wrap type top (on my new duct tape dress form
) and was looking to make a skirt ALOT like yours! I love it! Did you use a pattern? It's just a pull-on, right? I don't want to make a circle skirt, per se, as I think they make me look larger than I am. BTW, I really like the red.

Hi ingysoup, no pattern was used and it is just a pull-on. It is perfect for the weekends---when I want to be comfy but not sloppy. No circle skirts for me either!
I just cut strips of fabric---based on my measurements and sewed them together. The strips of fabric got progressively biggers as I went down. I did a mini strip at the top to help hold the form---after a couple of sweaty wears (it is hot here) I am glad I did because I think it would slouch.
Have fun!!!!

I love red, especially the kind that isn't afraid to be red.
You don't need to add any black anything to it - just wear it with a black top for a very dramatic statement. Of course, you can add black to it if you like, and I think it would be lovely - you just don't have to.
Black and red is one of my favourite colour combinations. Yeah, I like strong colours.

This made me LOL snacker, as I live in FL and totally relate. I'm still working on the top, but I will bookmark this and try and post a pic when I finish the

Snacker, I am so proud of you for making your first skirt. It is really cute and I like it red. It will look fine with a black top or white. Good job.

I think it looks great! And personally... I love any color BUT black. I wear a LOT of pinks and reds... sometimes blue... and for a darker color I wear brown. But I don't know why... I just have an aversion to black. *shrug* I think that skirt looks awesome though.

Awww, shucks, everyone....thanks for the compliments. I am now going to try and make this skirt out of sweatshirt material I found at a thrift store--put some elastic in the waistband. I will post pics when I am completed.
