I clicked in from the main page of craftster, where the image is divorced from its context (the sock monkey challenge), and I was a little taken aback by the racist implications of portraying mr T as a monkey.  In the context of the contest, it's a really cool and creative entry... but just "out there" as one lone crafted object, I was really shocked at all the "awesome!" and "cool" posts (obviously, perused before I figured out what forum this thread was a part of).

i'm confused as to the racist aspect of this.  there's a lance armstrong one, too, isn't there?  i know there's a johnny depp (capt jack sparrow amirugumi here somewhere, too).  as an A-Team fan (as well as a lot of the 80's TV shows), i would really love to add this to my collection of ode-to-80's memorabilia.  now maybe i'm just not looking too deeply into this, noticed any implied slight or insult by the talented crafster or don't know if there's a topic posted where people are offended by this particular one..having only seen this, so i'm just basing my reaction to this one.

I personally think it's silly that people would even comment on the fact that it is "racist" because I'm 110% certain that the creator did not have that intention in mind. The simple fact that people are looking into this beautiful project and criticizing it with being racist is very very sad in my opinion. Like you I'm just in awe at it's quality and attention to detail. Seeing it as "racist" has been the topic of many posts whitin this thread, I'd also love to know exactly what is racist about it? Does it lie in the history of the sock monkey? Is it something to do with Mr. T? Really everyone is quick to say "This is racist" but no one offers an explanation. Frankly even with an explanation I wouldn't change my point of view. This project is awesome.
