I didn't use a sewing machine at all, and it didn't take me long to make my monkey. The monkey body itself was done in a day, actually.

yeah, the monkey is all hand-sewn (I did sew the shirt on the machine) -- the sock fabric is so bumpy and stretchy that I thought it would actually be easier to sew it by hand!
