the epitome of a four year old girl dress on a 20 something yr old girl:

Please excuse the chunky arms.  That is what I get for refusing to exercise.  I combined designs if lacy pinafore dresses and apron tops I've seen recently and ended up with a great design for a dress for my little cousin.  I'm sure she would look much cuter in it.

    Thanks for all the compliments!
I wanted to make it a dress but I didn't have enough fabric and I was afraid of it looking too much like a little girl's dress.

This was really simple.  I used all rectangle shapes for the straps, bodice, and body.  This tut inspired me for the button back closure:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=43518.0
[/list]
  • The straps are just long strips of fabric folded in half and the lace sewn on afterwards.
  • The bodice is a tube of fabric with buttons and buttonholes in the back for closure.
  • The body is just a really long rectangle, gathered at the top.  You could pleat and gather to your liking here.  Mine ended up a bit too poofy, but after it hung on a hanger for a while it flattened out a bit.
  • And then you sew all three parts together! ta da!!
  • You can add more doodads like buttons or lace or zigzags and whatnot.

I know my tut is not as awesome as you would like it but I'm lazy and computer illiterate.  As long as you measure yourself correctly and try on the pieces as you go along, you can't go wrong!  Let me know if you need more information.

Great tutorial! I totally get it, and I'm dying to make one. Just need to dig out some cute fabric from the tons stashed in the garage
Thanks much  Kiss
