I just made this drawstring backpack. it is inspired by my recollection of a backpack that a friend of mine had in high school. i think she got it at the gap or old navy.

here it is on my back

and from the side

and on the floor

it's just 4 rectangles - two for the outside, two for the lining. really simple to make.

That's cute. I LOVE the fabric. Did you use a pattern or just wing it?

I remember those!  When I was in grade 7 the gap ones were so popular.  Lol.....all the "cool girls" used them for their gym strip.  Yours is way better!!!  I love the fabric too!

no, I didn't use a pattern, just winged it.
I love this fabric too! I have a lot of it as well. have used it for three different projects and there's still some left!

The string part wasn't that hard. I'm not sure if it's possible to make the bag using just two straps (mine has four). I couldn't figure out how I'd make the drawstring work that way. at least, not the way I wanted it to.

It looks fantastic, I love the length it falls to in the action shot, and the fabric is beautiful!

Does each drawstring go right through to the other side, or do they sort of loop back on themselves? (If you see what I mean).

they loop back on themselves. so there's actually two drawstrings in the top. i'm not sure if it would work if they went straight through to the other side.
