I got a set of 6 wooden bowls at a garage sale, stuck them in the dishwasher aannnnddd....you got it - the finish came off!  There is still finish on the outside and inside bottom, but not the sides. They look horrible.  We had planned on taking these to our pre-1840's camping.  We can only use pewter (i think it's pewter) and wooden food items.  How can I fix these so that they can be used and don't look horrible?

Thanks in advance for any help!

sand with very fine sandpaper and oil with olive oil.  then sand.  then oil.... and so on. gradually and with plenty of elbow grease, the finish will be restored.
