Well, I have decided that its time to stop being a lurker and start off with my first ever completed blanket.  I used 17 skeins of velvet spun yarn...lion brand, I think.  It was such a pain, seeing as the ends shed until I melted them shut. >_<  But the end result is nice.  I gave it to my cousin for her new baby, and I just found out that the nursery colors are yellow and green! 



and heres a close up shot, the entire thing is in double crochet.  Ill never do that again either, lol.

I love the look of that blanket!  The close up looks so soft and cuddly.

I've never used this kind of yarn before - how did you melt the ends shut?
